My daughter is 9 and has asked me flat out if Santa is real. I've tried what I've done in the past about saying everybody has their beliefs and if she believes, he is real. But then she said that she was asking me because she knows I don't lie to her. Well, that really made me uncomfortable because I don't lie to my children. I don't want her to think if she directly asks me something that I won't be honest. So I'm thinking I should tell her she's right. But it breaks my heart because she has always loved Santa and I hate to disappoint her (and me) . But I'm sure a lot of the kids in her class know already and she'll hear more about it as it gets closer to Christmas. So I should probably tell her, right?

If you tell her, tell her not to tell Ashley, please. I think Ashley has doubts but she still believes so I want to get at least one more year in. I don't know if Kelsey believes but if Kayleigh finds out, Kelsey probably will too. Please tell our girls to stop growing up so fast!

I was still able to skirt it last Christmas (O was 9) but I was figuring it was likely only gonna last one more year. I plan to tell her (only if she flat our asks) that while Santa doesn't ride in a sleigh or slide down the chimney he is the true spirit of loving and giving~the spirit of Christmas~ and I really do believe that.
ETA: I will also tell her to tell her inquiring minds that they'll have to ask their parents about it if they question her. I'll tell her she can tell them I believe! This post has been edited by mom21kid2dogs on Oct 1 2010, 02:09 PM -------------------- Cheryl, Olivia's mom

caleb started asking me last year...I told him that once you dont believe in santa anymore, you dont get gifts from santa, and since santa is the one who usually brings the large expensive gifts..he chose to believe!
I think he suspects, but I just told him that he will figure out all these things in time, and that to me, there are many "santa's" in the world. -------------------- Stacy, wife to Peter, mom to Caleb, Jakob, and Andrew
