I don't know how large your dog is, but I like to use kennels that have indoor/outdoor runs. The dog has the ability to go inside and cool off, or go outside to check things out. I would avoid a kennel that doesn't give the dog enough room to walk around (i.e.-cages). I also like kennels that have exercise pens, where the dogs can run free for a brief period each day, preferably with other dogs. I would ask if there's air conditioning, if you have to supply the food, if the other dogs have been vaccinated for kennel cough.

ok duh i just re-read your post and understand now.. wacko.gif

when we went on our trip what i did was find a place out in the boonies that had lots of land and more one on one with the dog. we went out there and took a look around, they had set times when they let them go run around the yard and play, etc. the one on one did wonders for dante and he actually enjoyed himself..

i definitely didn't want to go the regular kennel way because i was afraid of him being neglected and put in some cage and that's it with the potential of getting kennel cough/sick/etc.

i think i just looked in the phone book and called them one by one to see how much it would be and if they had lots of room/etc.

We keep my dog at the vet when we go out of town, but that's really only because I don't know where else to put him! One thing Kaitlin'smom said that was really good was pick up time! My vet was closed on Sunday when we got home from our trip, so Buddha had to stay an extra night.
