Spencer has been sick for quite a while now. He has had a cold that just won't seem to let up. It's going on 3 weeks now and just when we think he's better, he starts hacking again. He goes up the stairs to get something and then comes back down and he has to catch his breath. Tonight I went over to their house for dinner and he was on the couch. He said he was tired and he was curled up in a blanket. He usually has a blanket on him when he watches TV, but I haven't seen him this tired in such a long time. DH says he has been going to bed at 8:30 which is very unusual for Spencer. He is usually up until 10 and then reading in bed until 10:30. He saw his paediatrician last week and she prescribed anti-biotics, but said not to fill the prescription unless the cold didn't let up by this week. So DH filled the prescription yesterday. She wants him to get more active, he has put on some weight since his appointment in November. So far we haven't heard anything back from Sick Kids about his blood work he had done in January. And he had additional blood work done at the Paediatric Out-Patient Clinic last week and they haven't called. So I'm assuming everything is fine. I guess it will always be in the back of my head. Always worrying. I'm guessing it's just this cold that has him worn out. I just wonder if I will ever be able to breath a sigh of relief.

Kirsten, if I were you , no I couldn't ever stop worrying. I think it's completely normal given the trauma that Spencer and your family lived through.

I agree. Given Spencer's history, I think it is perfectly understandable, and even necessary, to take any infections and prolonged illnesses a little more serious than one normally would. I can imagine how hard it must be for you. Can you call to follow-up on his blood work to ease your mind a little? Hope Spencer feels better soon. -------------------- |

I would be thinking the same way, Kirstin--it's really almost unavoidable. But you have to take comfort in the fact that no news is good news.
It might be possible that he has mono--has anyone mentioned this possibility to you? Hope he recovers soon! -------------------- Jeanne
