Ashley is going with her Brownie troop to sing Christmas carols at a retirement home next week. The girls need to be in their uniforms. But, here's the problem. I don't sew and the badges and troop numbers need to be sewn on her vest. Last year in Daisy scouts, everything was iron on (so much easier). I don't know anyone that sews to ask for help, and I don't want to bug any of the other Moms. Is it hard to sew on a badge ... and how do you do it so that the thread doesn't show?

I don't sew but I suspect for someone who does it's a very easy fix so what I would do in your place is stop by a fabric store, like JoAnn's or whatever you guys have there and ask one of those ladies who works there at the sewing machines if she'll do it for you in her spare time for like 20 bucks or so. They'd jump at the chance given it would probably take them all of 3 minutes to do. Or ask her to name her price, I bet it'd be less than 20 bucks.

Oh... good idea! Is there a specifc brand that you like that works better than others? Would it hold up in the wash?

I am NOT a sewer and I really didn't have any trouble sewing Robbie's badges on his uniform for cadets. Just pick a colour that is the same as the badge, and go around the badge, over and under.

Are you sure they are not iron on? My dd is a Brownie this year and I thought I had to sew the patches on. Turns out they are iron on!

If they aren't iron on, you can buy iron on sheets from Michael's or any craft store. I used a sheet, not sure of the name, for my boy's scout patches and they lasted thru numerous washings.

I can sew things like that or you can get the stuff to make them an iron on, its really easy, I used that stuff to hem pants before and it lasted longer than the pants did.

I don't know if things have changed since I was a kid but mine were iron ons. My mom used to put one stitch each in the top, bottom, right and left just in case the iron on didn't hold and it always worked well.

The patches from her Daisy troop were iron on, but I don't see any of the glue stuff on the back of these that you would iron on? They aren't in the original pacakge because the troop leader bought and distributed them to the girls so there aren't any instructions... but I am pretty sure they aren't iron on. Also, there are a few patches that she earned as a Daisy that can carry over to Brownies (Thinking Day, Parade, etc), so I would have to remove those from her Daisy uniform and sew them on her Brownie uniform. I'll look for the glue stuff to make them iron on.... thanks again everyone.

biggrin.gif That's true, you do sew. But, I wouldn't want to bother you every time she earns a new patch. Thanks for the offer though. I'm going to look for the glue today.

Thanks... I picked up the glue and it worked perfectly on the patches that weren't iron-on.
