andrew is still not sleeping, not for naps and not at night. we give him his bottle burp him lay him down and in 45 mins or less he is up crying...to the point where if we pat him to reassure him he stands up and screams.
so my question is, we thought this was teething, but if its not, if its an ear infection wouldnt he be running a fever by now? its been almost two weeks. dont ear infections get progressively worse if not treated? -------------------- Stacy, wife to Peter, mom to Caleb, Jakob, and Andrew

I've had what my mother swore was an ear infection before and had it go away with no medications (I was an adult at the time though - don't know if that makes a difference).
Poor little guy - you may have done so already, I can't remember from your other post, but have you had him checked by a doctor yet? |

our entire family had what my dr called a "super bug" since mothers day. all of us including andrew were on antibiotics for ear infection sinus infections and the kids had croup. my cough had not gone away so my dh finally talked my into seeing a dr last friday. she said i have a terrible ear infection, but i felt nothing. she put me on my second dose of strong antibiotics. andrew had already started his fussiness then so i asked her to look at his ears and she said he was fine. so i never took him to the ped. but now i am wondering if i should. my dh thinks its a waste of time. but its been a while that he suddenly changed his patterns now, and i feel bad for him not to mention i am really getting tired. thats why i wondered if i was missing something -------------------- Stacy, wife to Peter, mom to Caleb, Jakob, and Andrew

Honestly, since it's been so long, IMO it can't hurt to have him checked. Either way, I hope he feels better soon.

You know -- it totally could be an ear infection! I believe alot of ear infections do go away without antibiotics,,,,,,,,,,but I'm not 100% sure about that.
I think getting him checked out would be a great idea. This could be the answer, hun! Good luck. -------------------- Peggy

Not all kids get fevers with an ear infection. One of my daycare girls never got one when she had an infection. Not all kids pull on ears either, and not all kids get cranky either. It all depends on your body's natural reaction to the infection.
It is possible the first time you took him in that one was underdeveloped and was not able to be detected. OR...it could be an INNER ear infection, which in that case can not be detected with the normal random ear scope. They have a specific scope for detecting inner ear infections, so ask the doctor to check in the inner ear. This has happened to Tanner before...took him in and all was said to be well, then he got worse and an inner ear infection was detected next time I took him in. Good luck, and I hope he gets better. ETA: Peggy is right as well, some (actually quite a few) do go away on their own, but not all...esp, inner ear infections. Aiden also recently has a series of 3 ear infections, but the doc thinks that could have been the same one and the antibiotics were not strong enough to get rid of it. Sometimes the antibiotics don't work and only surpress it enough and something stronger needs to be prescribed. Olivia or Dylan rarely get fevers with ear infections and they actually suggest now that you don't always give an antibiotic for ear infections that they will often clear on their own - and because kids get them so much if you continually give antibiotics they just become immune to them - dunno but my kids have always had antibiotics for ear infections anyway - my point being I would take him in - have him checked out.........
