Potty Training

Okay I ask this for a friend as my dd is only about 4 months old. What do you do when he (the boy is 4 going on 5) wont go in the potty and continues to pee (well and poop) in is underwear. Did anyone have this problem and if so what did you do to get him to use the potty? Any ideas or sugestions is appriciated!

I am having this same problem with my 3 1/2 year old dd-she hates going in the potty! What we have been doing is putting her in a dress and having her go without panties because she hates the feeling of pee running down her legs-I don't know how that would work with a boy-obviously he wouldn't want to wear a dress but maybe put him in a long t-shirt or something. Another suggestion I have read and will probably use if what we are doing doesn't work is make them clean up after themselves-If he messes his pants send him into the bathroom with a plastic bag-he can put his underwear in it and then clean himself up. Apparently kids decide it isn't worth the effort to clean themselves up so they will just go in the potty. If any other BTDT mommies have any other ideas I would sure appreciate them too!!

but who knows maybe if she puts him in one he might go! but I think that would have to be a last resourt!

Robbie hated it too, but I usually knew that he had to pee or poo about half an hour after eating or drinking anything, so I would sit him on the potty or the toilet. Also first thing in the morning and first thing before bed I would do the same thing. Eventually he learned, what it was used for. I would also empty an contents..... if ya catch my drift, pardon the pun in the toilet in front of him if he did it in his pants.

Hi my ds really didn't have that much trouble training although he did take a while till he stopped night accidents. Luckily my babysitter did most to all of the training. I potty trained my son by buying tissue paper bullseye targets and putting them in the toilet. He thought it was cool that he got to "aim an fire". My daughter was different, she loved Barney. So we bought her Barney underwear and told her if she peed on Barney it would make him sad and cry!! Both of theses worked, but cey child is different. Good Luck!!

also try gettiing her to get him to pee like a girl, Robbie didn't pee like a boy for the longest time.

My daughter didn't start using the potty regularly until she was over 3 1/2. She just didn't want to put in the effort to walk to the bathroom when she had a diaper on (pull up). The ONLY way I got her to fully train was a reward system. We drew up a chart and got some stickers. Every time she used the potty she got a sticker.. every time she wet her diaper instead, we took a sticker off. When she'd gotten to a certain number of stickers, she got to go to the toy store and pick out a 'prize'. By the time we'd gone through the chart twice, she was no longer having 'accidents'.

Cheerios work great! Stick them in the toilet and make a whole fun game of it. My oldest son never used pull ups and hated the poo in his diaper. Rewards work excellent too, a sticker goes a long ways with a toddler!!

First you have to be sure they are ready to train & want to train. This is one thing you can't force.

Second I would say once they are ready & willing that sticker charts and bribery are the way to go. With my oldest son we had trouble trianing him to poop on the potty b/c he had constipation issues and was afraid to poop. So I bought a 50 cheap matchbox liek cars and kept them in a bucket on the back of the toilet. Everutime he made a BM on the potty he got to pick 2. But cars #23 & 24 she was trained. My daughter was much easier & basically trained herself in a week. She got little horses & princess underware. But she wanted to train she she couldgo to 3 year old preschool. Now my 3rd (another son) is a different story. He has no interest in potty training and he'll be 3 in July.

What I did for my DS was I went to a dollar store, picked up some toys I new he would like. I wrapedthem and put them on a shelf in my bathroom.And every time he went potty, he got a present. About a week or so later, he would go to the potty without me saying anything to him. He also stoped asking for the presents. Just go used to doing it.

Thanks for all the replies, he is going much better in the potty now...............what worked? Bribary! He get a few jelly beans after he goes, soon he will no longer need pull up but at night!
