I've been battling something the past few months off and on and not sure what it is. I'd have one to two day spells of not being able to sleep at all. It's like I'm in light sleep or something. I'm awake, but I'm not and I'm so dog tired. It happens several times a month. Well this last time, now, has lasted 3 days. I'm so tired. I go to bed, fall asleep for about an hour and them BAM! I'm awake, but not awake all night long. I'm miserable and so tired. Is this insomnia, maybe? I really want to take a sleeping pill but I'm afraid if the girls wake up Dh won't hear them. I have got to get some sleep soon. The weird thing is my mind is racing a mile a minute and it could be about nothing at all. Seriously. Sunday I watched a pre-season Cardinal training game and all night long the name St. Louis Cardinals just raced through my mind all night long. WTF? Why? This is what I mean about my mind racing about nothing.

I went through something like that last year... well, still do sometimes. There were months were I would go with only a few hours of sleep each night. I am not sure why I go through spats like that. I am tired but yet can't sleep. Sometimes I would fall asleep during a movie -- I think because I was able to stop thinking about things during the movie. But, then I would wake up and not be able to fall back asleep. So frustrating. I probably should have seen my doctor, but I didn't. I am not much help, but just wanted to say I understand.

I've been like this for years---it is insomnia. There are different forms: not being able to fall asleep is one form, and falling asleep but waking during the night and then not going back to sleep is the other. I suffer mostly from the latter. Hormones come into play, along with stress. I'm more likely to get insomnia the week leading up to my period, but especially a day or two before. Then my mind is racing and reliving. But more chronically, I wake up anywhere between 3 and 5 when Daniel wakes up. He goes back to sleep, but I do not.
Have you slowed down on your exercise regimen at all? Sometimes that will affect your sleep. My problem is having coffee in the afternoon. A friend tells me that depression can also be a factor. It's funny you mention period associated with this. My co-worker told me her friend has the same issue insomnia/period. I finished mine several days ago and haven't noticed any correlation. I'm clueless as to what it could be. I do have severe winter blues so I guess that could be it.
ETA: I haven't been working out as much lately, BUT this happened before I changed my routine so I wouldn't think it would be that. This post has been edited by coasterqueen on Mar 14 2007, 07:50 AM -------------------- ~*Karen*~
