A few months ago, we had talked about taking up a collection and giving to a charity as a group. Those that want to participate can, but no one is require or should feel like they have to give.

So, I am looking for suggestions for a charity to give to. We'll pick a few and put up a poll and vote on it. Please try to keep it to National organizations.

I am a BIG fan of Bill Gates' charity- The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which is commited to eradicating preventable diseases for impoverished children. I read a piece on it a month or so ago- a very effective, well run organization that is making a HUGE difference:

I am not sure the name..but I heard someone was doing a charity for Children of the Hurricanes durning Christmas.. I will look into that more. They were thrown into something no one could help and don't even have a home yet.

How about Oprah's Angel network?

I have heard bad things about Ronald McDonald house. Funny, the guy who was my dad's best man started that charity (Jimmy Murray - also was the general manager for the Phil. Eagles years ago). He doesn't run it anymore, and he doesn't have many nice things to say about it anymore unfortunately. sad.gif
