Hi.. emlaugh.gif

About a week ago, I discovered I was pregnant (with a home pregnancy test). A few days after that, I had it confirmed at the health deparment. They told me I was roughly 5-6 weeks pregnant (including and accounting since the date of fertilization/conception).

I might just be spazzing, and I know I should still talk to a doctor about this (my 'maternity intake' appt., if anyone has heard of it, isn't until August 11 sad.gif), but... although I'm not experiencing it at the moment, for a couple days I was having a minor discharge. It appeared brownish, and had snot-like consistency. I was under more stress than usual around that time, but the people we've (me and my S/O) have spoken to so far, say it's probably just normal.

And the other day, (how to say this -- err) "relieving my bowels", when I looked down and saw blood in the toilet. Now, I haven't been doing much of this, due to lack of appetite in recent days, but it freaked me out. I was talking to my S/O about it, and says it might've happened because (of what I stated in the previous sentence), and due to that, I had to use a lot of 'force' to go poop. Heh. Which caused me to exert pressure on my uterus maybe, causing some blood to come out.

If anyone understood that incoherent paragraph, much kudos. When I try to sound coherent, I don't, haha.

Thanks for any help.

The brownish discharge is usually normal---it happened to me, and they told me it's just old blood being displaced. If you have fresh, red blood that is continuous that could be cause for concern, and I think in that case you're always supposed to call your OB. It's hard to know with the bowel movement, the blood could be something unrelated to the pregnancy. I would be concerned if fresh blood (not rusty colored) continued to flow not associated with a bowel movement but at other times too.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! thumb.gif Keep us posted!

i agree. the discharge is completely normal. as for the bleeding, your SO may be right in thinking that strain caused it. it is easy to cause small tears in that area if you are constipated. if you only have seen red blood that one time, i wouldn't be concerned as it is likely not pg related. if the bleeding becomes more frequent, get to the OB asap to rule out any possible problems.

Congrats and H&H 9 mos to you! thumb.gif

HELLO! wavey.gif And WELCOME!

Congrats on your PG! forum_balloon.gif

I totally agree with the others, the brownish discharge is normal. I had it too. And, I wouldn't be concerned about the bleeding unless it continued. I would mention it at your next appointment, but if it continues, then I would call the OB. I was never shy about calling my OB, that's what they are there for!

I hope you stick around here, looking forward to getting to know you better.

Thanks for the welcome and 'advice'. smile.gif

Yeah, when explaining the blood from being constipated, it's not easy to describe that in non-crass terms. emlaugh.gif It was only that one time however (which was reddish), because since then, I haven't noticed anymore blood (in the toilet, or on my toilet paper). *sighs with relief*

I think I'll like to stick around here, I browsed around a bit before submitting my topic, to make sure that the community members were a good crowd. wink.gif

Maybe I should introduce myself here?

I'm Vanessa, 19 years old (20 in September). This pregnancy was unplanned, seeing as I was taking birth control pills for several months. I was, admittedly, very surprised and ambivalent in the beginning... but now, as each day passes, I get a little more excited. Still nervous, but that's not new. smile.gif

The timing was kind of bad though (I guess all unplanned pregnancies are), seeing as how I've only been dating my S/O for a few months (he's 30). It's not something I anticipated dealing with until a few years down the road, if at all. But he is very excited about it, perhaps more than I.

Nice to meet you all. happy.gif

It's nice to officially meet you Vanessa. I'm glad you are going to stick around. That's great that your SO is excited about the baby. You know, sometimes that best things in life are unplanned. smile.gif

Hi! Welcome to the board wavey.gif I wanted to add this about the bleeding on the toilet - prenatals can sometimes cause constipation due to higher amounts of iron (I think that's what does it??). You can call your ob to request a perscription for another kind of vitamin which contains more stool softeners. They most likely don't even need to see you and can just call it in to your pharmacy.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I hope you decide to stick around happy.gif
