so we are having issues with Jade. she is spoiled despite all my efforts to teach her what i've taught the boys. she manipulates her siblings into doing her chores for her and just sits there and pouts if i ask her to clean up her mess. we have taken things away, rewarded good behavior, time outs and nothing works. every time we go out she expects us to buy her something. i won't do it. then she pouts some more. it's getting old. i'd think it was a girl thing but Kaleigh helps out more than she does. any advice appreciated.

Kylie goes through phases like that, totally high maintenance, whiny and generally unbearable making me feel like she's been raised by someone else .
What works best for me is to just ignore it....I don't spend a second explaining myself, arguing with her, or even trying to talk her into a better mood. She misses out on family stuff and other things she loves to do like helping me bake and spends that time in her room instead. It seems like she finally just gets tired of being excluded. Oh-and with wanting something at the store, etc....if at all possible, when she's in one of these phases, I flat out won't even let her come with me (although the other kids do). I stay firm that as long as she acts that way she won't have much going on in her little world other than eating and sleeping. She's gotten better, we have these spurts less and less so I'm hoping someday she'll just get over it all together |

She'll be 8 in March.
I know I didn't have any input that's concrete but really, the most effective thing for us has been to let her see that we'll all go on about our business and her little attitudes will get her nowhere....whatever it takes to accomplish that, we do it. It's not nearly as bad as it was a few years ago, so hang in there |

Kylie is the same way and she is to the point now that we've taken away her tv privileges so much she doesn't even care anymore. This morning she didn't get her way and slammed the door and went outside. I told her she was grounded tonight and she replied "that's fine, I'm used to my tv being taken away anyways". So I have no clue what to do with her. I only know it's going to get worse.
