Kayleigh is 9 and in 3rd grade and she is begging me to buy her a bra. She says a lot of the other girls in her class are wearing them. I can't remember when I first started wearing a bra but I didn't think it was that soon. I know girls develop earlier now so I guess the time is coming. She's growing up way to fast

I was in 7th grade, but really, I could still get away without wearing one.
![]() ![]() The earliest I remember anyone getting their period was 5th grade when I was young, but I hear they start sometime around age 11 now, ( can't tell me those bovine hormones don't effect humans ![]() I don't know. Al is 3. I don't have to worry about it for a while. LOL |

mya is 9 and wears them. granted they are more like camis that cut off at the ribcage. They have padded ones for her size but that just seems silly to me.
she either wears one or a cami. -------------------- ![]() Mya 7-1-00 |

Olivia started wearing them at 8. She does have breasts but she's bigger in all respects than most girls her age. We buy her sports bras. It is true, though. Alot of girls are wearing them at 8 or 9. Honestly, I'm like Tara~I still don't really need one!

My daughters are still too young but I remember I started wearing one in the 4th grade so I was probably 9 or 10. But I was one of the very first to wear one back then. I have a friend whose daughter is 8 and in 2nd grade and she wants one.

11 is actually the median age now. Girls start as young as 9 now. Olivia and I had a talk about periods last summer. She's in a combined 3rd/4th grade so I figured there would be girls in her class who were already menstruating and I didn't want her not to know what they were talking about. -------------------- Cheryl, Olivia's mom

Gosh, I am not ready for all this. Ashley will be in third grade next year but geesh, she's only 7. Isn't it too young to start talking about all this stuff? Maybe not, maybe I am in denial and just want her to be a kid awhile longer. Ashley would never think to ask for one now. I think I was 12 when I got my first bra? I will get Ashley one when she needs it... I wouldn't get her one just because a friend has one though. But, maybe I had better be prepared to start talking about all this stuff with her sooner than I had planned. Why do kids have to grow up so fast?
Do you think Kayleigh needs one now, or is she just wanting one? -------------------- |

This is exactly what I was going to say. If you feel she does need one then by all means, get her one, but I wouldn't get her one just because her friends are wearing them. I think I started wearing one around 11. -------------------- ![]() ![]() Life is an incredible journey that is only enhanced by the people you share it with. ~ Rev Run |

I think when their bb's start showing a bit too much through shirts they need to wear them. I know it was before 6th grade. I want to say 3rd or 4th, but I was an early bloomer.

My daughter is 10 and she hasn't started wearing one and will not until she starts developing. But then again she's still in a booster seat too.

Wait til you see what the average 5th graders look like. (well maybe you shouldn't. I'd hate to bring that baby on earlier than necessary!)They are WAY more developed than I was as a freshman in HS. It is INSANE. It took me totally aback when I started working in the schools. -------------------- Cheryl, Olivia's mom

Raina-Rane's 11 and she's just now getting to were she's needing one. right now if the shirts lose enough she can still go without one but for more snug fitting shirts she wears sports bras. she wanted one of those 'padded' bras they have for girls so she could have 'boobies' i told her that if she didn't have enough 'boobies' to fill the bra naturally then she didn't need one

I'm with Dee Dee--I was thinking the bra thing was wayyyyyyy off in the distance for Corey. She's only 7, weighs 44 lbs, wears a size 11 shoe, and still in a booster seat. I can't imagine her EVER having boobs, but I guess I'm just in la-la-land.
Me, I think I was in 6th grade when I got my first bra. -------------------- Jeanne

I was like 10 or 11. But I actually had boobs @ that age- I got my period @ 11. I was pretty much one of the first girls in my grade to get boobs.

I don't think the age is important. What matters is whether or not they need one, then it's a matter of finding the correct type and size. There are all kinds of products out there that work for girls at various stages of development. There are bras that are more like sports bras. These will give your daughter a since of not being the only girl not wearing a bra. Tell her that it's a sports bras, in case the other girls question why it doesn't look like their own bras.
