I just started and by just started I mean yesterday lol! I needed a couple credits to fill my schedule for this quarter at school so I am taking fitness running. It's twice a week and its basically just running but showing us exercises to stretch and such and improving times which I could give a flip less about. Being the first class we didn't do much but we ran for 15 minutes I thought I'd die by the end lol I am sooo out of shape! And I have about 10 years on most of the others in the class and probably 50lbs lol so I was a little slower and winded! Today I feel like I've been beat! Anyways my question is do anyone of you have any tips and what running shoes do you love?

I run in the mornings! Nothing major just a couple miles.

1. make sure you're breathing properly. A TON of people DO NOT breathe the correct way when running which exhausts you quicker.

2. Stretch!! Do a cool down and a warm up!!

3. Eat a lot of carbs, cut out sodas and sugary foods. Water and fruit will become your best friends.

I like New balance and Nike. If you go to a sports store and explain what you need them for, they can usually find you the right pair. I was running with tennis shoes that WEREN'T running shoes.. my feet would kill me!! dry.gif

I run several times a week. Usually anywhere frm 3-5 miles, depending on how muxh time I have. I run at the gym or outside in the neighborhood.

A good way to start running is to walk and run intervals.

I only wear Nike.

Yeah! I know! I just recently started doing Binding Yoga moves... and those are killer. I'm doing ok with inside binding.. it's the outside binding positinos that I'm still needing an few extra inches of gie and so I'm still using a towel. Blahhh!

I run on the treadmill a couple days a week, but am more of an aerobics type. I like Asics best too.

I want to start running even though I dont have a class for it laugh.gif . I took my little girl out on a walk today and even though her running is my power walking since she is little, I had a hard time keeping up with her. That's SOOO sad!

I agree with Edie. Intervals is the best way to start out. Walk most of the time and then try running one minute at a time to see how far you get. If they allow it, take an Ipod loaded with good motivational music...that always helps me. I have to work my way up to running. It's not my favorite thing to do (as you know.)

I have Nike and New Balance. My New Balance have lasted longer and are more comfortable.

I still don't do it properly sometimes according to DH. Whatever. tongue.gif

(Copied from the site below) Breathing -- Try to breathe in your nose and out of your mouth. At more strenuous levels, you may need to breathe in and out of your mouth. Keep your breath steady and try to breathe in rhythm with your steps. Depending on your speed, you may want to breathe in every two to four steps. Make your breathing as slow and deep as possible. This gives you better endurance and helps to avoid side cramps. If your breath is too shallow and fast, you could become light-headed or pass out because not enough oxygen is getting to your brain.

I like New balance

I agree. I use new balance. I was a runner all thru school and I used to train with a bunch of Army guys here on base do a 10 mile jog. But I agree with everything I quoted. Make sure your breathing is right or it will wear you out. And drink alot of water.

I started running about 3 weeks ago.
The first week was terrible and I'll tell you about the first half of every run sucks until your adrenaline kicks in then the rest is actually quite refreshing. It's a great way to stay in shape and feel good and alert for the rest of the day. I haven't fully got what my father calls the "runner's high" but I am hoping I get to experience it soon!

I love that this has resurfaced!

Yeah, I have never gotten past "I can't breathe" to get to a runner's high. I should try again as my bottom is getting wider .... huh.gif
