My wife has an appt. with her gyno today for her annual. She has no one to watch our 5 yr old little girl. I suggested she goes with her since I am at work and no one else is around. My wife became very irritated with me when I suggested such an inappropriate solution. I later made things worse suggesting it might be good for her to be exposed to something women do regularly. I couldn't have said anything worse. Am I that far off the rocker? I realy want to know!

Umm...yeah you're off your rocker. My DH is considerate enough to watch the kids for that brief of time for me.

if your 5yr old is anything like mine they ask enough questions without throwing all that in. Plus for me its very personal, and I am not even thirlled to have to have a nurse present when I am being examined let alone a 5yr old. IMO Your deffintly out of line on that one.

Yes. If you guys don't have a babysitter it doesn't sound like she gets much time to herself. This is one time she needs it. Cut her some slack and call in sick, or take an extra long lunch.

I would never consider bringing a 5 yo to an appointment like that. Would you consider taking your child to a proctology appointment? huh.gif No way.

I guess I'm the odd one out because while it's definitely not an ideal situation, if there was an emergency I'd take my kids if I absolutely had to - though I'd be more likely to reschedule the appointment for a time when a babysitter was available.

I wouldn't want my kids there. Heck, I don't even want to be there!

Inappropriate. Both for the kids and mom.

Well....would you take your child with you to the male version of an annual?

I think its something kids just don't need to see, so no, I wouldn't take mine with me.

I don't think she should be totally irritated with you, she is right it would not be a pleasant situation, but I think 5 is too old.. Like others said you may not want to go there with questions and her being only 5.

ultrasound appt... sure, but a regular gyno appt... no way! there are some truths a five year old does not need to know yet! and even if she was older, it's not really the type of appt that is a "sharing" experience kwim?!

Get a babysitter or take an extended lunch. Or what about having her schedule the appointment for early morning or late in the day so you'd only have to take a short amount of time off work.

Sorry to hear about your misunderstanding. Try and see if she is able to get the appt around your working hours, or see if she can do it on your lunch hour, so maybe you could take a little extra time (with approval from your boss) to watch your daughter. Most bosses are pretty understanding about it, especially if there is absolutely no one else to watch your daughter at the time. Working out a good time is key, I hope you get this resolved soon!

Wow, they really beat you up over this! Your wife can take her and everything will turn out good. At a younger age than that they start asking questions about their parts and there is no reason that she shouldn't find out from her own mom and a medical professional.
