For those that have just had boys in the last 6 months - year that are uncircumcised, what were the reccomendations given to you to start pulling back the foreskin on a boy?

I had a discussion with my friend today that just had a boy 5 months ago and she said that the new rule is not 5. She didn't say when it is though.

We ended up getting him circumcised (DH's decision) but I did a lot of research and everything I found said when it could retract completely on its own - no age was given really.

I have read and spoken to parents extencively due to my part on debate boards about this subject, that your not to pull the foreskin back. it is to be cleaned with a warm wet soapy cloth like any other body part and more or less like an ear crevis, gently go arround and about. no need to pull the foreskin back.

I believe it is 4-5.

During the first few years of life, the foreskin is stuck to the head of the penis by a membrane (called the synechia). This membrane or connective tissue dissolves naturally – a process that should never be hurried.

I'm not exactly sure. But in my case, I would wait until it goes back naturally on it's own. My kids, plus Dh, are uncirc'd. When the boys are in the bath, I pull it back just enough to clean in the "fold", but never where I can see the tip of the penis. Does that make sense? My kids are only 4 and 2.5, but I don't see it going back on it's own any time soon and I'm not worried. I've never had my ped say "you should start pulling it back at...", so I figure there really isn't any set time and there isn't really any concern.

I agree, this is what we do too. Alex is 4 and he is not circ'd either. It goes back a tiny bit, like Rae said.

You are not supposed to pull it back. It will disattach on its own.
