Two summers ago, Ashley chipped a tooth and had to have a filling put in. The filling came out and so she had to go see a pediatric dentist who removed part of the root and filled the tooth again. It's a baby tooth but one that she probably won't lose for another year or so. Poor girl has never had a cavity but had to go through this. Anyways, since she has gotten the orthodontic appliance in the top of her mouth (a palette expander), the filling has fallen out twice in less than about a month. Over the weekend, the filling came out AGAIN! Uggggh. Could it be the pressure from the dental appliance that is causing the problems?

yeeeaaaaaaaah. No clue. I would think so tho. are you going to 2 separate dentists? one for the spacer and one for the fillings?
One would think they have a way of dealing with these things, and they would have done it after the filling came out the first time.

Yes, her regular dentist for the filling and an ortho for the appliance. I got her into her regular dentist today to get the filling put back in (they were closed over the holiday weekend of course). And, the soonest I could get into the ortho is tomorrow. I will ask them both about it, but wondering if anyone has gone through anything similar?

My brother has a permanent spacer on the roof of his mouth. (he has some stubborn teeth..lol)
I don't know if they even do that anymore but he still has it in and that was well over 15 years ago that he got it and hasn't had any problems. It may depend on the severity of the space needed.
sorry i'm not much help on this one, times have a changed since i was last in the ortho office..LOL

It could be the spacer... Jenna has crowding, cross bite. She also has a baby tooth pulled because of a cavaity so that space was closing so when the adult tooth was finally ready to come in there was not enough room. So she was referred to ortho and she was given a spacer. At the ortho is where they discovered she had a crossbite and crowding. (only top teeth. ) Since having the spacer she has spaces between her teeth and the spaces wideneing so she isnt crowding anymore. So i would say its probably the cause of her filling falling out. Seeing jenna and what she looked before to how she does now... the spaces are very visible...

No Idea. I'm dreading taking Zach to the ortho in a few weeks... he's got horribly bucked teeth. And they're HUGE. I now know where the Beaver-tooth expression comes from. Poor kid. emlaugh.gif
