Hello.

I'm a 35 year old, happily married (10 years), father of a wonderful 3 year old son. I have a problem and am reaching out to whomever will listen.

Yesterday, I was contacted via Facebook by a girl I had a 2 week relationship with 15 years ago. She lived in the same city I went to college in, when I left college, I never saw or heard from her again. We innocently chatted about small stuff... our lives, our families, our jobs, whatnot. She mentioned that she had 5 children: 14, 11, 9, 5, 3. The 14 caught my attention.

I went into her photo albums and clicked through her pictures until I saw one of her 14 year old son. My heart dropped, it was like looking at my high school yearbook... I was staring into my own eyes. He looked exactly like me. I asked up up front who his father was. She avoided answering, I kept pushing. She finally fessed up that it was me.

To take a step back, we only had sex once, we used a condom, there were no accidents.

She went on to apologize for ever contacting me, she never wanted to me know or find out. She told me to forget about it, She told me she wants nothing from me. She just was curious as to what became of me.

I'm at a loss here. I was raised by my parents to be responsible. I have stood firm all this years that a man has a responsibility towards his children. I consider myself a family man, and love my family deeply. My first inclination is to ignore her request to back away, and try to contact him and try to have a relationship with him... But my 'gut' is telling me to stay away. As much as my ego says, "be a man", I just honestly can't see anything good coming from this, especially for a 14 year old boy. He is well cared for, his mother has been married for 9 years and his "father" treats him as his own. Apparently, he's in honors classes in school and, according to his mother, "is a very well rounded boy" and "has everything a 14 year old boy could want". She told me that he knows that his "dad" is not his birth father, he apparently is fine with it and hasn't raised question about it in a long time.

Any advice would be appreciated, I'd be glad to answer any questions that might help.
