I was just reading the homework post on another thread and noticed that someone said that some places were talking about making kindergarden all day. Here on post it is all day already. I would actually prefer it to be all day. I already have a feeling that Mckaylee will probably not want to come home at all.... . I think that there is alot expected to be taught and learned in Kindergarden now and think they need that extra time. Its already like a full day of kindergarten at our house everyday...Coloring, learning numbers, abc's, colors, shapes, reading....etc.

I think it probably depends on the child, but I think if my son were old enough and wanted to, I'd be happy for him to have whole days! Gives me more time!

Well Kindergarten is for 3 and 4 year olds here in New Zealand. But in the US they start Kindergarten at 5 right?
I think at age 5 a whole day is good. When I started school (at 5) we had whole days and they still do. As for 3 and 4 year olds... I think half a day is enough. -------------------- |

Just wanted to add.....we do most of those things all day and I can't imagine having to cram them into a short amount of time....

I voted whole day -- though my kids have attended both types (and I liked each program they were in).
My 2 older DDs went to a public school that had half-day kindergarten. For them - it was a program that worked. My youngest DD went to K in a school that was full-day (she also attended the pre-K program there...which was nearly full-day). The program is awesome - the teachers are wonderful. Considering the type of school....half-day would never be long enough. The kids spend half their day in "English studies" (learning the alphabet, beinnger-math, science, socializing, play, etc) and half the day in "Hebrew studies" (learning the Hebrew alphabet, learning Hebrew words and prayers, studying religious topics, etc). A half-day program wouldn't be nearly long enough for them to do all they do. We plan to send our boys to the same school - and have them in the same program that DD#3 did. |

I voted whole as well, I was looking at some workbooks for Christian and I to use that are geared towards kindergarteners. WOW! I did not realize that they learn mathematics, so for that alone I think they should go most or all day. On top of all the other things they must know.

We're going to do part day preschool this summer, full day preschool in the fall. I think that will ease them into full day K and not be too much of a shock.
