So I finally broke down and went to the gyno for my first ever full physical -- yeah I know... shame on me. The pap smear was surprisingly easy but then they did a vaginal ultrasound... um... someone should have warned me!!!!

Anyway -- with the pap smear do they call you later if you need to come back in or do you know before you leave the office? She said everything looked good so is that including the pap? I'm out of the loop here.

if everything is good you will normally get a letter at least that is how it was everytime I have gotten one but I have only been to two different places. why did you have to have an u/s if you don't mind me asking?

They will call you if you need to come back. Actually they notify you either way. My gyno gives me a number to the lab to call if I haven't heard anything within 10 days. It usually takes about a week.

Good for you for going for your pap thumb.gif ... just be sure to get one every year from now on.

I've never had the u/s as part of my annual, I usually get a card in the mail that says things are fine or they're not.

It typicall takes a few days at least for the results of the pap to come back..The doc ( at least my doc) will send a letter in the mai if the results are fine and will call me ( this last time I got a call due to abnormal results) if they are not..It is very important however to get your pap..My sis went at least 5 years w/ out it and then had abnormal results.

It's very important to get them done, Mine went from Normal to abnormal in less then a year and I had pre cancer cells. That is how fast they can become visible on you.

I have never had an ultrasound but once and that was when I was pregnant.

My Dr. will call if it is abnormal, send a postcard if it's normal. Either way I always know within 2 weeks.

No, I don't mind wink.gif

She did the ultrasound because I've had irregular cycles for a few months now -- my typical cycles are about 28 days and twice within the past 4 months I've had cycles less than 15 days. She just wanted to make sure "there wasn't anything in my uterus that wasn't supposed to be there." They didn't find anything in my uterus but they did find a big old ovarian cyst.

And thanks everyone! I'll definitely go back every year from now on. The pap smear wasn't bad at all... if she wants to do another of those ultrasounds though I may say no... lol.
