Hey all

My girlfriend has divorced parents (Since she was 2) and has always had a really good relationship with her mom

However, since going off to college it has dropped off and they have got in increasingly more and more arguments

My girlfriend is not the rebellious type and tells her mom absolutely everything, she can't lie to her at all. she doesn't do drugs, going to college.. good GPA. just got into the Honors Program this year with some really good grades now

However, last couple of days her mom has been increasingly upset at her

She yelled at her last night and this afternoon saying that she had failed as a parent and she didn't want to be her mom anymore and that she didnt have her blessing.

She hasn't done anything wrong, and just a few days ago her mom bought her a bunch of nice new furniture for her apartment for summer school

Obviously, my girlfriend is very distraught and I have been talking to her alot.

I dont know what to say/how to say it/what i should do

any advice?

My mother left my family when I was 10 and I haven’t talked to her since then, so almost 10years.
Keep trying to be involved with her. She will come around, it may be very frustrating for you, but it sounds like she may have some underlying issues that are holding her back. There must be a reason for her to not want you to go to her grad, talk to her dad maybe, it sounds like that’s probably the main reason.
She’s an adult now, and she can make her own decisions, hopefully she'll make the right one, because having no mother is hard. Especially when it comes to the important moments in life she’ll want you there, hopefully whenever that is you’ll be there to say 'Hi, what took you so long!"
Good Luck
