Sawyer was having one 4-5 hr stretch at night (when he was REALLY crabby in the evening), but now that he's not so crabby in the evening, he's only been having a 3 hr stretch. Then after that, he's awake every 2 hrs. I don't know what to do with him. When he nurses in the middle of the night (because it's so often) my let down is not A TON like it was when he went a long stretch, so he's falling asleep after only 5 min (I do EVERYTHING I can to keep him awake and it doesn't work). Then he's awake again in 1 3/4-2 hrs OH WELL... I guess things will gradually get better I hope. Any ideas?

For me I had to swaddle Kaitlin (now 3 months old) so she would sleep longer and not wake up so often. When she did I woul dnurse her and she to would fall asleep after a few minutes, Sometimes she was hungry and wanted a snack and sometimes she wanted her passifier (me). I was getting tired (litterly) of being her passifier at night so I tried swaddling her and it worked she started sleeping 4-5 hours.
Hang in there I know its tough but it will get better! -------------------- Di ~ mommy to Kaitlin wife to David

I won't be of much help, I think at 2 months, Ashley was still waking up about every 3 hours. I was told that was normal for that age. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
As for your let down... I am no expert, but it sounds like your milk is leveling out. The way I understand it though, the more you nurse, the more supply you will have. So, I don't think you are having a supply issue. Ashley used to fall asleep nursing too. But, she would continue to nurse while she was sleeping. -------------------- |

Man, that is a toughie, as always, with one so little and still needing mom so much.
I do understand what you mean about the let-down - since it's not as long between nursings, you don't feel like your supply is there (which it really still is) but because you are not as full, it doesn't feel like you are letting down like you used to with longer between feedings. However, I think Mommy is right and that it's not a supply issue. You say you have tried everything to keep him awake. Have you changed his diaper after he's gone back to sleep? Sometimes getting that fresh air on them would help to wake them up enough to nurse longer and not go to sleep so easy. I don't know how you feel about co-sleeping, but that was the approach we took to solve the problem. I know it's a personal preference, but that might be a way for you to get some more sleep at night Just remember that this too, shall pass and eventually he will outgrow needing to nurse, and wake, so often. -------------------- Beverly, DH Eje, and mom to PJ, 20 Leah, 18 Sara, 16 Anders, 5
