What is the curicculum for your Kindergartens this year? And are they in public or private school?

Last year when Ashley was in kindergarten (she went to private school), there was a lot of focus on the basics...
--her school put a heavy emphasis on writing. They started creative writing almost from the beginning of the year.
--letter sounds and blends, sight words, and then beginning reading
--they learned to count by 2's, 5's, 10's. They learned to know what is one more than, one less then, etc. They learned place values (ones place, tens place, one hundreds place, etc)
-- basic addition and subtraction. They even did some pre-algebra towards the end of the year (stuff like, if you have 6 apples and three friends, how many would you give each friend so that they had the same?)
--they learned to tell time and count coins up to 24cents (they didn't do quarters or add by quarters)

There are probably a ton of things I am forgetting, but I remember those as being the main focus.

Hi Marie, our boys are beyond Kindergarten and it sure has changed in the past 2 years. Here is a link to our boards website and their kindergarten info.

Kindergarten info.

There is a lot of info there, it was easier to post this link then put it all in one post. Oh ya the boys are going through the Separate(Catholic) school system.

Same for my kids, the twins were in public and Macie was in private. I didn't really notice much difference between the two other than the fact that it was a different curriculum so they had differences in the exercises they did....but it came down to the same idea.

The only other things coming to mind are working with patterns, learning about shapes (building models of a rhombus with toothpics type of thing), and very simple spelling tests (cat, is, the, etc).

Oh yeah, I forgot, they did a lot with patterns. Told you there was stuff I probably forgot.

1/2 way through the year Ben is reading stage one readers, can phonetically write sentences, is doing simple addition and subtraction using groups of shapes and numbers, and can write / recognize all his letters and numbers up to 100.
