i just saw a different side of my husband yesterday at our doc visit
we went to the doc and she started off with taking my blood pressure and then said "i have a few things i really need to discuss with you and they are important.......you are having a c-section and it has been determined that based on the critical location of the fibroid we will be using general anesthetic which means you will be totally out and nelson you will not be in the room........if there is a risk you may die, we need you........." all my husband heard is i may die and he just tuned out and never heard a word after that.......... i was in shock when she said that i sat there on the table and listened to the rest and how if she makes the cut and punctures the fibroid, i may end up having a lot of bleeding so i will need to sign papers to get a blood transfusion and if they cannot control things from there then further papers need to be signed so they can do a hysterectomy and that will only be if they think i won't make it......... it was the way she said it.......... well my husband had already gone in to shock and never heard the whole thing.....i remember him removing his jacket while i was on the table and the doc was measuring my stomach the next i looked over and his head was slumped to one side and his eyes were rolled back, i called out for him 2-3 times and he didn't respond the doc looked at him and yelled for the nurses to help her and then rushed over to him, by that time i had jumped off the table..........she asked me if he has a history of seizures and i said i didn't know he was convulsing and they had to take him off the chair and put him on the floor.........god was he heavy he kept asking the doc if i was gonna be ok..... she realized he hadn't heard everything she had said..........she explained everything to him and promised she will not let anything happen to me and that she won't let me die god they really use words like that and they sound bad...........i know they have to to cover their butts he told me that within those few mintues he said he had so many nightmares...he said he felt like running away b/c that is how overwelmed he was.... he was ok after a while but stressed b/c he never thought he would have to be faced with life without me.........we only got married last april and only known each other for a total of 16 months so far .......i know he cared about me but i didn't know it was this much........... i mean this is a different way i see things...........this guy does not care about anything as long as he has me we did some research on the net and feel better now b/c we have more info doc didn't finish all she wanted to go over so i know there is more to come i want him in the room with me, we wanted to see the baby together............. |

Wow! I'm sorry you went through that---it sounds frightening. I hope DH will be okay, and I hope your delivery goes much better than the worst-case-scenario this scary doctor is suggesting. My friend had a C-section with fibroids without any trouble whatsoever. Doctors can be so dense with their word choices sometimes!

Wow! How scary! I can't even believe your doctor wasn't more sensitive than that!! I'm sure everything will be fine. How sweet of your DH to be so concerned. My husband was the same way when he found out I might have had to have a c-section.

Wow I can't believe she wasn't more sensitive! I'm confused though... what is the reason your DH can't be in the room with you? That's a real bummer - I think that if it's going to be that scary I'd want my Dh in there for sure!

Wow, definitely scary. For what it's worth they tell all c/s patients stuff like that and make them sign a bunch of "I'm not reliable" papers. I remember them freaking us out when I had to have mine and having us sign a bunch of crap. It freaked us out even more because they were shoving those papers down our throats on the way to the delivery room. Like we had time to think about it or anything.

holy cow! that was totally insensitive! glad DH was okay, but i also don't get why he can't scrub in and stay with you during the c-sec? sweet to know how he really feels, isn't it?

they said the reason my husband can't be there in the room with me is if they can't control the bleeding they will have to take the fibroid out and if that doesn't work they will be doing a hysterectomy...........this is all if they cannot control the bleeding.......my fibroid is 10 cm and it is at the bottom carrying a very large supply of blood
silly question.......everyone uses DH.......i know that is short for husband but what does it stand for?? |

WOW!! What an ordeal! Well I'm glad that you got a chance to do some research. It kind of helps you work everything out, huh?
BTW, the DH stands for Darling/Dear/Damn Husband. Just depends on the context of the sentence. -------------------- -K Mommy to Sydney |
