OMG... that is horrendous... and so incredibly sad.
I do have to say I thought US news was bad about being graphic... but that was far worse than anything I've ever read... and the way those witnesses were talking about it... -------------------- ~Rachel~ Godmommy to;Connor (September '04) & Caydence (August '06)

WOW! Things of that magnitude VERY rarely happen here
My heart goes out to the poor victim. Sleeping happily, merrily away and barely wakes up long enough to die. Too bad Canad-eh doesn't have the death penalty, because that guy would so get MY vote!!! |

It's a very sad and disturbing news story! I hear about this yesterday afternoon and was absolutely shocked at what I had heard. I feel for the man that was killed and for all the passengers on the bus, what a horrific scene to have witnessed!

So sad but the paper said the killer was his seat mate and the dude that was sitting in front of it said it was his seat mate
See: A man of about 18 who was sleeping with headphones on was attacked by his seat mate, according to the man who sat in front of them. And then its says this: Garnet Caton, 26, was sitting in the seat in front of the attacker. "I was just reading a book and all of a sudden I heard a guy screaming. I turned around and the guy sitting right beside me was standing up and stabbing another guy with a big Rambo knife," he said. Either way it is very sad something like that happend here in the States also I guess they better do weapon checks but thats kinda hard when they pick ppl. up all the time on the roads -------------------- Wife to Ed (Redchief)

the psycho apprently sat quietly near the front of the bus most of the trip. there was a stop where people got off to have a smoke and the 19yo boy got on. then psycho got back onto the back of the bus and sat beside the 19 yo victim. the guy sitting in front of psycho is the one talking to all the press.
the boy was asleep listening to music when it happened and there is no connection that they knew each other. the guy was just completely psychotic! the news even suggested he cannibalized the body after the decapitation and that he was completely emotionless the whole time. the worst thing is.. there were quite a few kids on that bus. -------------------- mama to Jacob, James, Jade, Kaleigh and Riley!!

I read a few paragraphs, but I couldn't bring myself to read the entire story.
I don't understand, how does someone become like that? -------------------- |

I couldnt read all of it either. It was way to graphic for me. I agree what the heck makes someone go that far? To actually take someones head off. All those people are going to need some help. I would be in a shrinks office the same day. -------------------- [/IMG]

The way I was following it was the psycho was sitting beside the victim and Garnet, the witness, sat in front of the psycho. I was looking at the pic's and watched the video and all I can say is, thank GOODNESS there were no children on board!! None were mentioned and I didn't "see" any. I'm thinking I'm not taking a bus any time soon....... |

I read all the articles printed to date and found there was a woman seated behind them who had a toddler. She "threw" her baby over the seats ahead to get the child to safety.
They've identified the psycho [Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton] and the victim [Tim McLean, 22, of Winnipeg]. He's in court already and charged with 2nd degree murder. Update [still pretty graphic, starts about halfway through the story] |

You know I've thought and thought about this all day long and one thing continuously comes to mind for me... why if all these people were on this bus when this young man was being attacked did NO ONE try to help... no where have I read that someone tried to stop the attacker...
maybe it wasn't possible... but from the news I've seen and the witness interviews someone screamed and everyone immediately fled the bus. -------------------- ~Rachel~ Godmommy to;Connor (September '04) & Caydence (August '06)

well they did help in their own way... getting everyone off to safety and stood guard outside the bus with weapons given from a truck driver (tools) to ensure he stayed on the bus until the RCMP showed up. there was nothing they could have done to save that kid.. it all happened too fast and the guy was out of his mind. the first thing a cop would tell you is let them handle it. why endanger more lives?

At first I thought this story might be a little graphic and over the top for this forum, but I thought about it for a while and indeed, this story belongs right here. It doesn't belong here for what happened, but for what we can learn from it. Something in that individual's life caused him to have a total and complete lack of empathy for fellow humans; at least that poor kid. I remembered some of my training in dealing with these very disturbing people. There are a lot of possible reasons that someone could do what he did to that kid, but most of them begin at very early age. It's obvious the man was deranged. All I've read points to early childhood as the time when social integration and empathy are formed within people. Those that are exposed to repeated violence at an early age are most prone toward violent behavior and anti-social actions. I found an interesting paper here. This paper is going on ten years old, so it's not news, but it provides some provocative insight into how we can predict who, or in some cases, what, children will become.
So, I suppose what I'm asking is, have you hugged your kids today and told them, showed them, that they are loved? -------------------- Ed is husband to Lisa (since 1983) Dad to Ricky, John, Erin and Kaitlin The Administrators of the Parenting Club take trolls and violators of the Terms of Service Agreement seriously. I hug my children ALL the time. Give them a pat on the head for a job well done, smile randomly at them, and tell them I love them maybe 100 times a day. They do the same with me. I'm always getting random hugs or get told that I'm their "favourite Ummy". DS has often run downstairs, given me a hug and says, "Mmmmmm, I LOVE you!" and runs back upstairs again.
We have a saying in our house, "You make my heart happy." |
