I know these stories are nothing new and are hard to read, but I figured I'd post about another hot car death. It sickens me and from the way I read it, this Father is almost blaming the older son because he's the one supposed to be watching the younger kids. mad.gif I don't understand how you can not notice one of your kids is missing after 17 hours!!!! I don't care how well they've raised their 8 kids for the past 21 years, the fact is, they left their 4 year old son in the car and now he's dead. Let this be a reminder to EVERYONE to always check the car before you get out. And if you are a forgetful person then drive with a stuffed animal in your lap that way when you're getting out, it will serve as a reminder. I'm so sick of hearing these stories, and feel so bad for what these children have to go through. I can't imagine it's a calm and peaceful death. dry.gif

mad.gif Wow, yeah, great parenting skills there. I have to comment on a few things though.

1. 17 hours??? SERIOUSLY?? No one noticed one of the kids missing before that?? Good grief, I would know one was missing in about 1 second. I'm constantly counting heads!

2. Dinner - "they just go in & grab for themselves". Just how are they supposed to get a decent, balanced meal? And the 4 yr old was mentally disabled, no one helped him get a meal??? Did no one cook???

3. The older brother - it's not HIS job to take care/watch out for the younger kids! Kinda like the uh, Duggars all over again.

It's the 17 hours that I just can't get past - how in the world could you not notice for 17 hours that no one had seen him??? Even if they are playing in another room my kids always have a question to ask, a story to tell, or even just to tell me that someone's being mean at least 3-4 times a hour....

My thoughts exactly.
And I don't understand how a lot of these people aren't being charged with anything. I know they say they are accidents (which I will never understand), but I still think someone should be held accountable and if not the parents, then who? I'm such a nervous parent, that I've made it a point to always check the backseat, even when I know she's not in the car. I've just made it a habit. I even doublecheck that she's in her carseat before taking off, cause you also hear a lot about kids being run over right in their own driveways. sad.gif

I agree with you! Someone needs to be held responsible!!! And I am the same way, I am always double checking on the kids! Better safe than sorry!

I wouldn't leave my children in the car if I was running into a store for 5 seconds!! growl.gif Heck, I don't even leave mine outside to play on their own if I have to come in to pee or grab a drink.

When we're out and about, they both hold my hands wub.gif wub.gif so I always know exactly where they are love2.gif love2.gif
