I was just cruious on what made you choose your childs name. What was the final thing that made you decide on that name????

With Colt, I never stood a chance, DH had his mind made up on that one since he was about seven rolling_smile.gif . Kylie was the only name we didn't argue over, and DH actually named Macie all by himself when I was in surgery getting my tubal laugh.gif And it's pretty ironic, since that was what I wanted to name Kylie but he didn't go for it then rolleyes.gif

I had to see them before I could name them. What if you named them the next child's name by mistake?

Posted by: Brias3 Feb 6 2008, 10:29 AM
We basically just chose names we could agree on. All three of my kids have family names for their middle names. The only one that DH was pretty dead set on was Aliyah (it had some sentimental value to him), and I hated the name at first, but it eventually kinda grew on me.

With Alyssa I just like the name and Faith was a name that I kinda always liked... with Autumn it was a last minute name and I just like Brooke

We use family names and I am also a big fan of vowels especially with my last name wink.gif

Wil's real name is Richard, after DH. And his middle name is William which was my grandfather's name who I was very fond of. So we knew from the start that we wanted to carry on the name.

For Wesley, I think you all helped me with that. It was my boy cabbage patch doll's name when I was a kid though...So it has always been a name I like. But I think we took a vote here and a lot of people liked it. So did DH, so it stuck. His middle name is Adam, like DH's.

DH found Mia Bella (notice the space lol) and fell in love with it, the meaning, everything. He wanted a little girl sooo bad and the meaning was perfect. We did have a couple others has backup in case she didn't LOOK like a Miabella, but she does IMO. wub.gif

I always like the name Austin. I first heard it on a soap opera when I was younger. His middle name actually came from my ex's middle name (not the daddy) I just feel in love with the combination.

Austin Michael

Olivia was always Olivia - after a poster of Olivia Newton John from a date DH and I went on at Applebee's - her middle name Faye - was part of my father's name - his name was Fayette Laverne - we always told him we were very sorry but we wouldn't name a boy after him laugh.gif so Olivia got his name as her middle name in honor of him -

Dylan was decided on by the nurses in the delivery room - they had a choice of Dylan or Bryan - they chose Dylan.... thumb.gif he became Dilly Pickly by the time he was 5 days old rolling_smile.gif

Jacob - i wanted to name him Anthony but his dad refused. then i wanted a biblical name and Jacob was the first one we agreed on and really liked. so he is Jacob Anthony.

James - had no name for almost a week because i was CONVINCED he was a girl lol. he was named after my dad.

Jade - both dh and i loved the name Jade. i wanted to add Jessica after my grandmother who passed but Jade Jessica sounded funny, so she is Jessica Jade but we call her Jade.

Kaleigh - i wanted my next girl to be Sierra but dh hated the name. we played around with the name Carly but with a little help from you guys here, we chose Kaleigh because it relates to my irish roots smile.gif

I have always been fascinated by the Mughals who ruled India once upon a time. Jahangir is my favourite king....his real name was Salim. So I named my son Salim. As for my daughter....everybody knows about the Taj Mahal which was built by Emperor Shah Jehan for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz Mahal's real name was Arjumand.

This is why I named my twins Salim and Arjumand.

Posted by: PrairieMom Feb 27 2008, 11:00 AM
We wanted to name our boy after DH's father Tracy, but needed a strong masculine name to go with it, Benjamin was just a name that we both didn't hate, and it sounded ok with Tracy, so we ended up with
Benjamin Tracy

Alexis was a name that we had picked out for Ben just in case he was a Girl, (we didn't find out)
Nikol is my sisters name, so we named her Alexis NiKol.

That's really kewl, I never knew that. Who knew you could get an interesting history lesson while reading a baby name thread?? lol

All my children were named after people I really admired or thought they were totally kewl. There also had to be no way for school children to be able to demean their names or make nasty ones up with them.

My oldest:
Aaron Anthony Michael Paul. I picked Aaron because I couldn't think of anything that anyone could do to it to make fun of it. Anthony, because it went really nicely with Aaron. Michael after Michael Kelland Hutchence [formerly the singer of INXS, whom I LOVE wub.gif ]. Paul, because it was the middle name of my then-hubby and it all flowed together nicely.

Middle:
Sasha Jhaele Anna Marie. Sasha, after Sasha Tukatch [former drummer of Platinum Blonde, I fell in love with the name]. Jhaele [pronounced Hayley] for two reasons: 1. I got the actual name and spelling from either a DragonLance or Forgotten Realms novel [I forget which one, I'm an avid collector of both], 2. because of the pronunciation, she was named after Kelly Ripa's character Hayley Vaughn Santos from All My Children. Anna, because it went well with Marie. Marie because it's one of my birth middle names.

Youngest:
Curtis Sebastian Tyler Storm. Curtis after Curt Smith from Tears for Fears. Curt even had a special Fan Page put special on his site for Curtis!! Sebastian after Sebastian Spence [Cade Foster from First Wave. I knew him when he was 17 years old and he was a hottie back then too!!]. Tyler after a childhood sweetheart. Storm because I needed a fourth name and since Sasha had a funky one, then Curtis needed one, too, and it went so great with Tyler.

We didn't do nicknames with their names [like Dilly Pickly]. Their nicks are, in order, Snuggle Bum, Cuddle Bear and Hunny Bunny - although Sasha's has been changed to Giggle Grrl because all she seems to be doing lately is giggle laugh.gif

I just always loved the name Emily. It sounds so pretty to me. Elaine came from one of my best friends in hs. I always loved the middle name and told her i would use it. She hated it. Emily Elaine is what she was always going to be.

I wanted Mason badly for Aiden, Dh wanted Hal.(uhhh NO!!) I decided to let him decide since I chose Em's name. I told him Aiden in the beginning(my niece was going to use it if she had a boy but found out they were having a girl) and he said no way. A day after he was born he's like what about Aiden(like I had never said it before) His name has to be Aiden. It suits my little fireball. wink.gif

I hate picking out names, I always tell people I wish they came out with name tags on. It is so hard for me to pick.

Our oldest is Megan Marie - DH picked out first name, her middle name is for his sister and my mom's middle name

Alyssa Grace - we decided on the name Alyssa after seeing it written on a wooden wall at the park. LOL Grace is my mom's first name.

We are thinking of naming this one Sean Michael... but I don't know. It is so hard!!

DH and I wrote down our favorite name for each letter of the alphabet. We then sat down and narrowed the names down to these:

Lauren
Katherine
Dylan
Courtney
Taylor
Elizabeth

We did a poll of our friends when I was pregnant with K and according to the votes, she was Lauren Taylor for a long time...then in my third trimester, I started dreaming of cats. Kat is what my GF Katherine goes by and the cat dreams just wouldn't go away...tigers, kittens etc. Finally, I woke up one morning, told DH that this baby wanted to be named Katherine. He said I was off of my rocker because of the reasoning but he was ok with it. So Katherine Taylor it is.

Lauren got shafted in naming. We just used the same list and took the next most popular names, Lauren Elizabeth...Hey, we'd just moved from a different city, changed jobs...it was a crazy time.

Well years ago I met a little baby named Jack and I thought it was a cool name 10 years ago and vowed I would always name a boy Jack, Thomas is his middle name (DH) and he has another middle name tha tis an old Danish surname Vejsig....both kids have this middle name.

Laila came ot be because I wanted Sadie and TOm didn't - my sister emailed some names and Laila was one of them and Tom likes Laila Ali - so she was. Caroline is her middle name and that is my moms name.

I have a t.v./movie theme.

Izabella was named from a character in the movie "Mi Familia". She was the character who had to get married to stay in the country. Awesome movie btw.

Evan was named after Evan Marriott. He was the first Joe Millionaire. You know, the construction worker guy. happy.gif

The kids are already calling the new baby Jack-Jack from 'The Incredibles'. rolleyes.gif

I chose my daughter name "Yoshita" because yoshi means "best", She is the best part of our life.

My ex's favorite animal was a dove at the time she was pregnant with my daughter. So I went on a baby name website, put in 'dove' for the meaning and found Paloma. It was beautiful in my opinion, so she was Paloma.

We picked Jade totally out of whim. We were also thinking of May, Anne, Lee and Elizabeth, but I thought they were too common next to a more exotic name like Paloma. Because my ex and I decided on a middle ground, we thought Jade was a nice choice. And there you have it; Paloma Jade.

We just tried to go with names we like, we are terrible at picking names. We agree on one, 2 weeks later find another one laugh.gif

We have Emily Kate, Odessa Jean and Aysun Aleisha. We just go with what we like, I think what seals the deal is when you see them

Aysun was very nearly Aleisha, but in the few days before she was born we decided Aysun Aleisha sounded nicer than Aleisha Aysun. We were also going to spell Aleisha the more traditional way, 'Alicia', but we saw a girl on tv called Aleisha and liked the spelling.

We don't have any trouble with boys names though, we had a boys name picked out for a long time and it only changed once. After Aysun, we decided if we had a son we would call him Cody.
