My neighbor just brought me some home made neoki ( I'm probably spelling it wrong but thats what it sounds like) and I'm not sure what it is or how you cook it or what. I didn't want to ask and seem rude blush.gif They kind of look like dumplings?

They are gnocchi (I think that's how it's spelled, may be gnocci). They are potato dumplings. I believe they are boiled in water or chicken stock, and possibly served with a tomato sauce.

I've had gnocchi... I like them with chicken (of course that's the only way I've ever had them, so my experience is limited).

Gnocchi (pronounced nee-okkee) are an excellent alternative to pasta: They're fantastic with all sorts of sauces, from a simple summer tomato sauce to the richest winter meat sauce.

Cook the gnocchi in abundant salted boiling water, removing them with a slotted spoon a minute or two after they rise to the surface. Drain them well and serve them with a few leaves of sage, melted unsalted butter and Parmigiano, or meat sauce, or pomarola, or pesto.

Apparantly, they are considered an Italian dish but get their name from the German word for knot. They're served with everything from marinara to heavy meat type sauces to lighter stuff like simple spices. Now I just have to figure out what to have with them, sounds like they're too good to put a jar of Ragu on. cool.gif

Yep, its gnocchi. They're a cross between a dumpling and a pasta in my opinion. I've never prepared them myself before but I'd guess you can probably boil them. I like to eat them with a marinara sauce or with broccoli and garlic butter sauce.

I boiled them with some salt and garlic, then just put diced tomatos, basil and some mozerella on top. They were yummy but the kids didn't like them, they pretended they were eating eyeballs wacko.gif
