The Administrators and Moderators want you to know that you are valued member of our parenting community and that your thoughts and opinions do matter. Therefore we are taking steps to make sure everyone's opinion is respected. In order to create an atmosphere of friendly exchange of ideas among our members, personally disrespectful behavior is not permitted. Please understand that the Administrators and Moderators continue to desire the free exchange of ideas, and opposing views on various topics will always be welcome, but personal attacks on a person or persons because of those views will not be permitted. These are not new rules, but growing pains within the Parenting Club have made enforcement of these rules more difficult as time went on and friendships and adversaries have been made. The Administrators have hereby directed that parenting styles and opposing positions on topics are fair game for debate, but there is to be zero tolerance for personal attacks on any person. As always, if you feel you have been unfairly moderated, you always have the right to appeal, however we feel that it is vital to the survival of these forums that we treat one another with respect – even when feelings run strongly within.
The following are some examples of post content that will be moderated, among others: 1. Calling out any member by name or nickname in order to disagree strongly with what that person has said – stick to the topic and keep the personalities out of the reply 2. Name calling of any kind – we’re all adults, let us please act like it 3. Any post that belittles a person or persons instead of taking on the topic at hand – it is possible to take an opposite position without having to paint yourself in a superior light 4. Subtle attacks using smileys or other such innuendos – we recognize these offhand sleights and they will be summarily removed We want all of our members to feel as though they can safely take a position on a topic without fear that their opinion will not be valued. Obviously members are going to feel strongly that their position is the right one, but one thing that all must remember is that it is unlikely that you will change another person’s system of beliefs in a phrase or sentence. So share your opinions, and expect that others will feel differently. Respect that and expect the same in return. We all have the ability to learn from one another and most of us have, even from those we often disagree with, whether we like to admit it or not. Finally, the primary purpose of these forums is to share ideas and experiences on how we parent our children in this mixed up, sometimes scary world. We have come to value each others’ opinions on a wide range of topics, and the Administrators have no desire to limit that exchange, but we ask that before you hit the “reply” button, you ask yourselves, “Would my kids be proud of what I’m about to say here?” Thank you for making Parenting Club the best parenting forum around! I know this is a little late for some of the things that went on... sorry I have been absent, but I just wanted to bump this up.
You know, what happened with Johnathon has me thinking alot about life. Time is precious, and we never know what tomorrow brings. Is it really too much to ask to treat each other with respect? If you don't like what someone says, maybe it is better to just walk away rather than to say something you may regret. -------------------- |
