Ok y'all. It's been a long time since I've had a 1 year old and apparently I'm living "the 2nd one is totally different" because I did not have this much trouble with Thomas.
I spend the majority of my day saying NO NO Andrew! For the same things....over and over and over and over. For example....our dvds....they are in a drawer and no matter how many times I correct him, AND pop his leg/hand (no debates, yes I spank him and I will continue to) he goes right back to it....sometimes within a minute. I really think he KNOWS what I mean because when I see him, call out his name, say NO NO...he stays put, but the minute I start walking over to him....he stops and starts to walk away. BUT that doesn't keep him from doing it again. Like I said, Thomas got into things but not repeatedly like this. OY! HELP! When will this get better? -------------------- Naomi, Wife to Tim & Mommy to Thomas (7) and Andrew (2)

I also spank, so no tomatoes here. I also am going through the '2nd one is so different,' and I have found that with Waylon time-outs work fairly well. He tends to really push his boundaries lately - pushing, being ugly to someone, using bad words like shut-up, intentionally making messes with a drink, etc. For this type of thing I will try a pop on the hand or butt. If he does it again, he gets sat on the couch or chair for a few minutes with no toys, tv, snacks, etc. That seems to really bother him the most right now. Maybe give that a try?

My Andrew also breaks the mold in our home and has been my toughest child.
Spanking doesn't work for him. He responds to my taking things away and time outs better. I hate to admit also to save myself the stress, I've moved things like the DVD drawer just to not have the fight. -------------------- Stacy, wife to Peter, mom to Caleb, Jakob, and Andrew

![]() I can't tell you that when he will get it but I can say stay consistent and because he will eventually get it. Autumn is MUCH easier than she use to be.. I spank also! -------------------- |

I'm sure I'll be able to use other methods later but I can't really put him in time out yet, too young to understand. And taking away won't work yet either (although it works well with Thomas).
He's listening a little better today......so far, it's still early! ha -------------------- Naomi, Wife to Tim & Mommy to Thomas (7) and Andrew (2)

I remember going through that with both of mine... the dvd's were a favorite of theirs to mess with too.

Yes! Don't give in--keep doing what you are doing or you will regret it later. Take it from someone who knows. Man, with Ethan--I get SO tired of hearing my own voice and repeating myself that some days I just give up and say to h___ with it! But, consistency is key (as always.)

I just gave up and move the things out of reach, so sort of set them up for success not failure.....make sense? -------------------- ![]() |

Oh heavens thats Breanna all the way. Jenna was such a good baby/child. Yes momma, ok momma, etc. Never got into anything and would play for hours in her room. Breanna well is the polar opposite of her big sister. She gets into EVERYTHING!!!! Throws all the books out of her shelves in our livingroom, movies etc etc etc. all the toy bins...empty. The dayhome kidlets do this as well. My only form of sanity was... move the things out of reach. Then they are not tempted to touch them and wont keep annoying the heck out of you.... I moved all teh books, movies and such... the only thing i couldnt was the toy bins... But its a working process.

Annnnnd, we're right back here again....now it's climbing! The dining room chairs, the bar stools (TALL bar stools at that), anything he can, he climbs on. Seems he does it more when I'm out of the room, so it's like he knows he shouldn't. I seriously can't even go pee lately. THIS is why we do MDO 2 days a week now!

I know repetition is irritating, but if you follow the same routine for punishments like taking things away or time outs, they will eventually come around. My 2nd one was way more difficult than the first, but he grew out of it. Whew!!

![]() ![]() LOL....sorry that's funny! We use them at least 3 times a day so that would be a pain in my rear to have to undo those every time. Do you think it's more they're that much harder or our attention is split and we're tired/frazzled? Liam is starting to be a major monkey boy, but Isabelle was (IS!) so much harder. She is such a brat sometimes. But mega sweet other times.
As for going pee, I try and stuck him in the play room and RUN to the bathroom. (they're the furthest away rooms) he thinks it's a game and by the time he figures out where I am I'm done!! -------------------- ![]() |
