I am working out 5 days a week, doing various dvd's as my routines. All have some strength training to them. BUT I just got a really great strength training/toning video that's 1/2 hour long (I think) that kicked my butt the other night. happy.gif

How do you do your workouts? I guess what I'm trying to find out is if I do my cardio workout and strength training/toning workout on the same night or alternate? What? I'm clueless. blush.gif

My goal is working out 5 days a week and working well. I'm trying to stick to working out Sunday through Thursday because I know I can't give excuses then, but ideally I'd like to work out on Friday or Saturday if I have nothing going on and not work out one of the other days.

before I had Jay, I would spend 1 1/2 hours at the gym 6 days a week. I'd do 45 minutes of cardio and then 15 minutes of ab work, then approx 1/2 hour of weights.

Now, that time is waaaay more limited, I run 45 minutes 2 times per week (monday and friday) plus a few minutes of upper body strength training and a few minutes of abs, On wed I take a 1hour body pump class (thats all strength training), on saturday I take a 1 hour step class

so my point is.....do what you have time for, but make sure to include cardio and strength training for the best results

THanks. I think I will alternate. I was just afraid of doing more of one than another and it hindering my weight loss efforts. blush.gif

If you're at all working out to build muscle you should alternate. Your muscles need at least 24 hours rest after a workout to properly build. Good Luck.

Karen I read somewhere that you should do strength training once or twice a week. Make sure you at least space them one day apart to give your muscles time to rest. wink.gif

Right now I am doing 45 mins cardio, 5 days a week. I do strength training about 2 times a week and I work my abs daily. On the days I strength train I do 30 mins of cardio and 30-45 minutes of weights. If you do too much strength training you may notice that the pounds aren't dropping as fast, but you will lose more inches. I went thru this a few months ago. You also said that you didn't want to be bulky. If I were you I would stick with strength training once a week and lots of cardio since cardio is what helps you lose the weight. wink.gif

Yeah, I'm incorporating it 2x a week now. Taebo does an excellent job of taking care of cardio, and really all other aspects one needs for fitness. I actually get too bulky from doing Taebo too much so I know I could NEVER do weights. I just want a softness to me so I stay feminine as DH calls it, lol.

I just really liked that strength training/toning tape or else I'd stick to the workouts I'm already doing.

I try to alternate, but on Thursdays, I run in the AM and do strenght training in the PM. Otherwise I wouldn't get that cardio in enough times in the week. I used to double up on Monday, too, but my PM class kicks my hiney and I need every ounce of strength to get through it.

Yeah I'd LOVE to do it that way, but no such luck with working out of the home full time. I barely get an hour each night to work out. wacko.gif
