We use the honey and lemon juice for coughs/sore throats and it works great. I was doing some reading on this and found that if you add mint tea that helps with the congestion part. Has anyone tried this with their little ones? Is mint tea not safe for them? Not sure I'd be able to get them to take it either.

I thought you weren't suppose to use honey until they were like 2 or something. though.

I have used black tea and honey. I don't know much about herbal teas and children. Sorry.
I talked to a pharmacist over the weekend and she said water is good for loosing up congestion. This post has been edited by momofone on Oct 23 2007, 10:48 AM |

I was wondering about this...do you take a teaspoon of honey and then a teaspoon of lemon juice?? Or do you mix it or what?

We warm a cup of water in a kettle on the stove, then put a teaspoon of honey and I put in lemon juice -- about a teaspoon, sometimes more -- I put it in there "to taste". -------------------- ~*Karen*~

OH! So you make a weak "tea" then?
Do you make it for youself?? When (if) you do, do you add more honey and lemon? So I guess if mint does help w/decongestion all you'd have to do is add a mint tea bag?? -------------------- |

When DH and I use it we sometimes put a bit more in, just depending on our mood and tastebuds at that time. I have not done the mint yet, but there are mint teas out there, so that's what I would probably use. -------------------- ~*Karen*~

Sorry, I didn't know how old she was. I just read up on it and it is No honey for infants under the age of one. If anyone wants to know more here is Honey Information. So did you try your tea? Was it good and did it work? This post has been edited by momtoMegan&Alyxandria on Oct 24 2007, 08:41 AM |

No biggie. I did not try the concoction with mint tea. I am not congested right now or sick. The rest of my house is. Dh drank himself a honey and lemon juice concoction last night and the girls have the last two nights. I will get some mint tea at the store this weekend, though, and keep it on hand for the rest of the winter months just in case. -------------------- ~*Karen*~

do sinus cavity massage too, that will help with congestion and drainage so you don't get a sinus infection. -------------------- ~*Karen*~

Oh yeah I forgot about that. And also my SIL works for a chiropractor and she said that if you get your neck/back adjusted the congestion will be gone. She gets free adjustments whenever she's sick. |
