I found a spaghetti in crock pot recipe that I want to try....BUT it calls for using spaghetti sauce, stewed tomatoes, and seasonings. I don't want to use a jar of spaghetti sauce. So does anyone have a recipe for making the sauce in the crockpot w/out using a jar of spaghetti sauce? I've only used jarred sauce before. blush.gif

The recipe just calls for what I mentioned above plus meatballs to be cooked on low all day, then you cook the noodles right before you are ready to eat.

Honestly, I've found that anything like that you cook on the stove you can throw in a crock pot. I'd just use your usual recipe but cook it in the crock.

My usual recipe is jarred spaghetti sauce. tongue.gif I'm wanting to make a homemade one, but don't know how. That's my problem. blush.gif I don't mind our organic jarred sauce, but just wanted to try something different if possible. happy.gif

Homemade spaghetti sauce is basically
2 28 oz cans of crushed tomatoes
a few cloves of crushed or minced garlic (as much as you like)
1 chopped onion
fresh or dried basil (fresh is way better)
oregano
parsley
2 tablespoons of sugar (cuts acidity of tomatoes)
grated parmesan or romano cheese
red wine to taste

saute the onion and garlic, add everything else and cook. That's it. If you want meat sauce, brown some chop meat or sausage with onions and garlic before adding tomatoes. The seasonings are whatever amounts you prefer. I don't measure, I just taste as I go along.

Thanks Jeanne. A lot of that is called for in the recipe, so I wonder why they have a jar of spaghetti sauce on there too. Weird. happy.gif
