I can't believe he'll be 8 this year & in 3rd
grade!!! This is the only kid that I know that actually almost cries
on the last day of school! lol He'll miss his friends & his teacher.
But I'll be keeping him busy! I'm excited to be able to be home with
him this summer. This is my first time! smile.gif

He grew up a lot this year. He even has a bit of a girlfriend! He
got his first love letter. First of many I'm sure! smile.gif He's a lady
killer!

Anyone have any advice for 3rd grade?

lol it's SO cute! She's the cutest/sweetest girl too! I'm so glad he has good taste! smile.gif Another girl in his class (her friend) had him "be cool" yesterday so he could win her heart. lol I just crack up. They grow up so fast. The letter is TOO cute! I'll get it when he's not looking & type it to you guys!

Robbie won't get his report card untill the 27th, however I have no doubt he'll be going to grade 3 next year. I'm interesting in that answer as well LOL.

I would like to know as well.My son just turned 8 and going into 3rd grade. Even though I do not get him all the time, just knowing what 3rd grade has to show would be nice.

3rd grade is a excellent grade! My son did his first play in third grade. Last year that is, we had to make the costume's and it was just like we were in the city watching a broadway show. I was sooo proud! 3rd grade is very nice. Some tough state tests(NY) but thats about it. smile.gif

I think for the kids that is just about the best grade - they are getting a little "freedom" from the memorizaiton learning, and getting to really start to think for themselves....form opinions, etc, etc.... They seem to also get very creative around this time - with both school work and also other things like art, dance, theatre, etc, and seem to want to get more involved in that kind of thing.

Third grade is really fun. I used to teach it up until this last year. The thing that is difficult about 3rd grade is the math. They should be able to add and subtract to 4 digits with "regrouping"- the new vocabulary for carrying and borrowing. They will also be learning to multiply and divide. To help with this, make sure that your child can count by 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s to 100. It makes it so much easier when they know what comes next in the pattern!

In reading- they begin the transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn" and they should be learning to read chapter books.

Emotionally, the cool thing about 3rd graders is that they start to become very independent. Like supermom said, thinking for themselves and expressing their opinions. Third grade girls get very cliquey at the end of third grade (and even a bit snotty)- but not every girl does and it passes.

It always seemed to me that third grade was the year that their bodies grew so much, yet they didn't know how to control them yet. It takes awhile to learn how to use that larger body.

For the summer- keep them reading and writing stories- they really do forget much of what they know during the summer!
