Hey everyone....I am a chronic lurker on this site, but rarely post..., however I need some advice on relieving my 16 month old daughters mouth pain. She is getting 3 back teeth in at the same time. One upper and two lower. She is absolutely miserable and has been for the last 2.5 days. I took her to the MD just to make sure nothing else was going on, and she is okay...She does not have a fever anymore but she is most definitely not herself. Any suggestions? wacko.gif

Poor thing ! sad.gif

Have you been giving her Tylenol fairly frequently? Abby's been teething BIG TIME the last few days and I've been giving her Tylenol as soon as she wakes up and then through out the day. I only give it to her this much when she's in alot of pain. In a day or so, I'll cut it back to see how she does. I've also been using the numbing gel on her gums -- seems to help a bit.

Oh, and I've been giving her lots of stuff to chew...................she likes chewing on the velcro part of her bibs, frozen wash clothes softened with cold water (you dont want anything that will be too hard on her gums).........

Hope this helps. If not, just know that I'm going through it, too.

Good luck and may the force be with you smile.gif

I alternated Motrin and Tylenol. One then four hours later, the other. Learned that trick from the PICU nurses after Logan's surgery. He cut his first molar while he was still on morphine. But the alternating pain meds really works and motrin helps with the inflammation and any possible teething fever.

I've asked our Pediatrician about Motrin and she only recommends using it under extreme cases of pain. (like the surgery mentioned above). She says a child's body has a hard time breaking down Motrin, therefore longterm use is not good for a child's liver. At least that's what our Pediatrician says.

I'd think you'd be fine if you use it in moderation.

Good luck !

Our ped said sporadic use, like above described, for only one or two days, is just fine after 1 year. But each ped has different ideas.

I've heard that alternating between Tylenol and Motrin is good too. I have actually found that Tylenol always takes a lot longer to take the fever down for my kids, where Motrin works instantly. Personal preference I guess. Anyhow, I think those Hylands teething tablets work for a little while. They always make Wesley calm down some...That is if you don't want to use medicine (they are all-natural herbal tablets). GL. hug.gif

Tanner always liked to suck on a frozen pickle. You can try that with a variety of frozen foods.
