Has anyone heard of the CRAM diet opposed to the BRAT (or BRATTY/BRATT) diet? I have been researching it and supposedly it is more recommended by pediatricians for treating diarrhea then the BRAT diet. I have never heard of it before though unsure.gif

I've never heard of it either, I thought the point of BRAT was to help settle the stomach with mild foods....CRAM has some good points but I can't imagine milk on a yucky stomach. That might just be me, but when my stomach is upset I can't stand the thought of milk.

Not a huge amount of diffrence really, yes CRAM has the milk ie calcium and pritein, but I think a child can live without that for a couple days while recovering from being ill.

Hmm... odd. I think it would depend on what the other symptoms of the illness are. If a child, for example has both vomitting and diarreah you certainly wouldn't be giving them milk!

However, diarreah can be caused by many different things so who knows.

I've heard cranberry juice (only 100%) helps cure diarreah too.

Wow... The old "get better diet" our pediatrician recommended 20 years ago now has an acronym (CRAM). I don't see anything wrong with either diet, although our ped used to tell us to cut the milk 50/50 with water for 24 hours and see how it went (or in this case; didn't went, if you know what I mean). He also recommended continuing re-hydration therapy with Pedia-Lite or sports drinks and water (also mixed since sports drinks can be a little harsh on young tummies).

Not being a big believer in absolutes, I would use either or a combination of both depending on the kid and what exactly seems to be working.

Oh please. They're probably just saying that so parents will give their kids more milk. the whole point of the brat diet is to firm up loose stools, isn't it?
