I used prefold with a water proof cover. I had decent luck with them, they weren't bad at all, but next time I think I want to try all in ones.
You can find them everywhere, but ETSY.com has some really cute ones. They are expensive, but if you start early then you have time to re-coup your $. |

You need doublers. Especially with boys. And a wool cover for night. Fleece would be good too. You only need one wool cover and you could just try one fleece.
I tried them with my oldest DS and gave up. I did not have doublers and they would have helped a lot! -------------------- |

I found a sale on a website on Thirsties aios with the pocket, and I bought some hemp inserts, since I read that the hemp absorbs more. I also ordered a bumgenius to try out- my friend uses them (the pocket all in ones) and loves them, but I'm not sure if they will fit Brian yet. Since he's only 3 weeks old, and we plan on having more kids, I'm sure that they will be worth the cost. The thirsties were only 8.99, but they are the version 1, and version 2 is out. After ordering them, though, I realized I had a brain fart and ordered the smalls, which are larger than the xsmalls (more for newborn), so the smalls might be too big for him yet. I was able to go back and order two more newborns, so at least I will get to try a couple of them out.
Thanks Tara- I will go back and read Mollie's post! -------------------- Michelle

For newborns you might was to use disposibles anyway - their poo is sooo runny I just couldn't do cloth.
I have 5 happy heinies - 3 brand new and 2 used that I'd be willing to part with if anyone is interested. I have pics. They are boy colored/patterned. CD really isn't that bad if you can stay up with the laundry. My problem was I was always behind and they ended up in Huggies by the end of the day anyway. -------------------- |

I figure that even if I only use them for a couple of days a week, at least I would have saved that many diapers, and cut down the cost some.
I mentioned it to my MIL tonight (the one I figured would be the most resistant since she watches my kids 3 hours a day), and she said, "What, are you going green now?" I said, "No, I'm going cheap!" She didn't seem resistant, so we'll see! -------------------- Michelle
