Ok I know some of us are getting really close. I'm only 31 wks 6 days so not close enough to using any of these tricks, but I was wondering what all you guys know. I have a recipe from some place in Atlanta that says if you have their egg plant parmsean you will go into labor in 48 hrs or less. They have had 300+ people have it work. They say if it doesn't work they will give you another free meal. I'll put it on, but please share yours.
Here's a link to the story
http://www.wchstv.com/gmarecipes/eggplantparmigian.shtml

here's the recipe

Eggplant inducing food

3 medium sized eggplants
1 cup flour
6 eggs, beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs, seasoned
Olive oil for sauteing
8 cups of marinara sauce (recipe below)
1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 pounds of mozzarella cheese, shredded
2 cups of ricotta cheese

Directions

1. After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4-inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant before you slice it. However, you may want to leave the skin on since it contains a lot of vitamins.

2. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle with a little salt, then cover with another layer of paper towels and hold it down with something heavy to drain the excess moisture. Let them sit for about an hour.

3. Working with one slice of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat well with breadcrumbs.

4. Saute in preheated olive oil on both sides until golden brown.

5. In baking dish, alternate layers of marinara sauce, eggplant slices, ricotta, parmesan and Romano cheeses, until you fill the baking dish, about 1/8 inch from the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese, and bake for 25 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

Scalini's Marinara Sauce

Ingredients

2 Tablespoons of chopped garlic
3 Tablespoons of olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)
1 cup onions, chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper
1/8 cup of fresh chopped sweet basil
Pinch of thyme
Pinch of rosemary
One teaspoon salt
One teaspoon black pepper

Directions

1. Lightly saute the onions in olive oil in large pot for a few minutes.

2. Add garlic and saute another minute.

3. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to a boil, then turn heat low.

4. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

biggrin.gif I've heard of this, among other labor inducing tricks. tongue.gif I'm not even going to consider any of those tricks, silly they may be, until I get AT LEAST 39 weeks. biggrin.gif But I don't think I could eat that stuff no matter if someone swore to me it would get this baby out. rolling_smile.gif

The only surefire way to get that baby out is to let nature take its course - or have a csection. Or be induced- but that doesn't always work.

Let me tell you, I've heard some CRAZY ways to induce labor. Some are even potentially harmful. One of tehse is drinking caster oil or wahtever it is.

Having sex is a good one - FUn trying but probably wont' work. Although it's supposed to like trigger contractions due to something found in semen. dunno.gif

Um... walking - walkings a great one. It takes your mind of it too.

I dunno. there are some good ones.

My friend is currently doing a course on aqua-pressure and apparently if you hold your left hand out palm side down between you thumb and 1st fingure there is a small lump of skin open your thumb slighley and if you keep massaging this its meant to help to induce labor??!!

Not sure if it works or even if it makes sence to anyone out there happy.gif

I can't say for sure it works!! But since you live close by, I would try it. Especially if you like eggplant.

This is my first pregnancy and I am going to be having a C-section and therefore will not be trying to induce my labor, but here is what a book I have suggests about Do-It-Yourself Labor Induction. Please let me know if anyone does try this!!

It says..." One study showed that women who, from 39 weeks on, stimulated their nipples for three hours or more daily were much less likely to carry past their due dates. In the study women stimulated the nipple, areola, and breast with the balls of their fingertips, 15 minutes a breast, alternating breasts, for one hour three times a day. Creams or lotions were optional as was a husband's help.

The problem is that not only is this technique time and energy consuming, but without careful medical supervision, it can be risky. It can produce very strong contractions (much as oxytocin can), which could lead to trouble. So do not try this technique unless your practitioner recommends it."

Now, with all that being said you have to decide if you are willing to give this a try or not. Good luck to those of you that do!!

Oh yeah, I tried all of those! Except the Castrol Oil...um...for obvious reasons! tongue.gif I walked like a mad women around the block as fast as I could. We tried having sex, I stimulated my nipples until they were going to fall off, I drank rasberry tea, all the old tricks to induce labor....and I ended up being a week overdue and being induced! wacko.gif So...I'm sure some of these techniques work for some people, but it no way guarantees labor. Sure, it's worth a try...as long as it's safe. But like lovelydad said, the only real way is letting nature run it's course....as hard as it is to wait.

I know how hard it is the last couple of weeks, hang in there sweetie! And keep us posted on your delivery! grouphug.gif

I tried all kinds of those labor inducing tricks when I was a week overdue. None of them worked. But, I was bored one day and decided I would play one of my step son's video games. It was fun and in the middle of the game my water broke. So maybe video games induce labor? wacko.gif

tongue.gif I'm convinced that pedicures work! I got my sister-in-law to paint my toenails since I couldnt reach them and I wanted them to look pretty for the doctor. The next morning I was in labor!

Sex worked for me.

You're right though it's the semen, and the orgasm that induce.

Hi. I am 31 weeks pregnant with my third child and not yet ready to start trying to get my labor going yet. But I have already been having Braxton Hicks. With my second child my contractions started early as well and i was put on Brethine and by that time i had already dilated to 1cm. I was around 26 or 27 weeks then. My doctor was able to keep me from going into labor until I was around 38 weeks and told me i could try the eggplant parmessan. He said his wife had eaten it and she went into labor like 48 hours later or something. So I went home got the recipe and started cooking. I ate the eggplant parmessan around 3:00 that evening and at 3:00 pm the next day my water broke. It was exactly 24 hrs from the time i ate the eggplant parmessan. Keep in mind though that I was already having contractions and my body was already trying to prepare for labor. So i think that that is the main thing with anything you try when doing do-it-youself inducing techniques is that your body has to be ready also or it wont work.

We're ready for our second. My wife was induced for our first baby, but wasn't even dialated. I would not recommend that for anyone. Our second is due in one week, and my wife is already dialated. We're really anxious. We've been trying things like walks and spicy foods, but I never heard anything about the eggplant, so you know what's going to be cooking at my house tonight! rolleyes.gif
Everyone we've spoken to has told us how sex worked to start their labor. Semen has prostaglandins which can help to induce labor.
One OBGYN suggested to go for a ride on a bumpy road, come home and clean the kitchen floor, eat some spicy food, and have some sex.

sounds like a fun evening to me. Scenic views, clean kitchen, full belly, and some "exercise" wink.gif

Just a note to anyone thinking about Castor oil. If you do get desperate, I would try it, but make sure to buy Castor oil, not Castrol oil. One is for you, the other is for your car. My wife got really confused when the doctor suggested she drink Castor oil because she thought he meant Castrol. One will give you the runs, and the other will kill you, so don't drink motor oil!

I did everything under the sun with my first child.

Pineapple and Eggplant
Raspberry Leaf Tea
Walking
Sex
Pressure Points
Nipple Stimulation

Nothing worked.

What ended up working was taking Evening Primrose Oil to help efface (NOT DILATE) the cervix so it could then be easier for the cervix to dilate on its own. In one week I went from 20 to 80% effaced taking EPO.

I ended up being induced at 41w3d and having a e/c-s at 41w4d.

What worked for me was definitely the labor acupressure. I'm a big fan of that method now.

With Mikee I waited it out.

With Andy - I did castor oil (WAY TOO EARLY though - stupid me) and then when it got time to have her I alternated blue and black cohosh, manual dilation and raspberry tea.

Will say though, the blue/black cohosh is dangerous. I didn't know that at the time. We were told it was safe. sad.gif One of them dries up the placenta, and that is dangerous for the baby if your body isn't ready to deliver and the other starts contractions and keeps them going.
