I've never been one to freak out or be upset that my girls didn't want solids, especially before the age of one year, but there are reasons why I was with Megan. She had to see a feeding team last monday along with her gastro specialist because he was concerned about Megan's reaction to solid foods. She would gag and throw-up every time I would put solids on her tongue. SO the feeding team gave me explicit instructions on how to feed her, what to feed her, etc to help her. She has what lamens terms is forward tongue movement. That is why you always see pics of her with her tongue out. As well as she always sucks on her tongue in her sleep which isn't good. This "problem" means she could have horrible food aversions to solid foods as well as teeth issues from the sucking on the tongue. My poor baby girl, she's had so many issues. I really wish she would have stayed in a bit longer, but Nooooo she had to come a month early.
Anyways, I did all the stuff they suggested and it's working. I had to make her food to certain "texture" and approach her mouth from a certain way etc. I think the texture of the food and the mouth muscle strengthening exercises really helped. She's still got a long way to go to having "normal" food, but we are getting there. We have to see the feeding team every 2-3 weeks until she's mastered all the "levels" they are wanting her to. So I was super excited to see her take some solids this weekend. It wasn't much at all, which is fine and I'm glad the feeding team is fine with her not eating much as well. The bad thing is she's been refluxing badly and so she's refluxing solids. iCK! They also have her using a Nuby sippy and want me to rid of the bottle at daycare because it makes the issues worse and we've worked on the sippy this weeend and she will take one but the flow is way too fast and she makes the biggest messes. Oh well, that will be the dcp's problem. -------------------- ~*Karen*~

WTG MEgan!!
The littel girl I care for had teh same issues with solids. She always gagegd them up and then threw up everywhere. It was a LONG SLOW process getting her to eat but at 15 months she was finally eating most everyhting all other toddlers weer eating. By 1 year she had gotten down the baby food and soft stuff like spaghetti o's. But still has texture issues with mashed potato etc. -------------------- |

Yeah, they told me it could be a very long process. For Megan it's definitely a texture issue but a weird issue. I say that because they had me start w/stage 1 baby food and she gagged and threw that up immediately. So they told me to go to stage 2 because it has a different texture and she took that. IMO stage 2 is a bit more "grittier" so she must have issues with the very smooth stuff, not sure. She keeps me guessing 24/7. They also have me making my own baby food but I'm having trouble getting the texture just right. -------------------- ~*Karen*~
