I am going to a dinner and need to bring a dish. The theme is New York.
Any ideas? -------------------- |

Waldorf Salad. google will probably give you recipes. When I think of NYC I think of eating that. But I never made one.
If the theme is NY State... then there are some regional foods. For instance up here in the north country (we are over 300 miles from NYC) we cook salt potatos and they don't in lower NY STate. Apples and Dairy are our big products. So Apple Crisp, or Apple Pie or Apples cut up and carmel for a dip. Hence The Big Apple. Dairy products: there are alot of NY Cheeses. Italian foods are very big in NYC. And there is Chinatown too. I think I would go with Apples. A very easy and nice presentation is to put a block of cream cheese in the middle of a platter, pour a carmel sauce over it, slice some apples and arrange slices around the outside for dipping and you have covered the dairy and the apples. Sounds like fun. Enjoy!! -------------------- Anne Marie Mom to Billy & Mary Beth Wife to Lee |

Desserts are easy: black and white cookies, cheesecake, apple anything
Jewish deli food is very NY, by which I mean pickled herring, bagels, good lox, chopped chicken livers, corned beef sandwiches on good rye bread, etc. like someone else said, Italian pastry is very NY--such as cannoli, neopolians, chocolate eclairs, rum balls--do you have any Italian bakeries where you are? Idk, let me think about it today... This post has been edited by jcc64 on Dec 4 2009, 04:12 AM -------------------- Jeanne

Wow NY is a really broad theme. They have like every world culture there. It seems like it would be fun to go to though.

I really like their deserts the most. Especially cheese cake.
