We were at the health food store at lunch looking for other things and stumbled across cleansing kits. Anyone try them? What can I expect in using one of those? I.E. should I do this on the weekend because I'm going to be in the bathroom the entire time? blush.gif

I have never heard of a cleansing kit, but I have always wanted to cleanse myself just never been brave enough.

I am sorta broken. tongue.gif I'll try to make a long story short.

At the same time I was first dealing with ulcers I was also having lots of "bathroom" problems. They are still trying to figure out what the issue is. Right now they are classifying it as Irritable Bowel Syndrome caused by some kind of food poisoning. The specialist said I could have it for 6 months or the rest of my life, who knows. rolleyes.gif He's running other tests for Celiac Disease and a few other things. He recommended I start back up on Acidophilus, which I'm doing, but the problem is still there. So I thought maybe the cleansing kit would help. Maybe? blush.gif blush.gif

I say go for it what can it hurt and I would do it on a Saturday am and you will be done in a few hours at the most just as long as its not the kind you drink

Dr. Oz was on Oprah a week or so ago talking about some "myths". One of them was cleansing. He said in tests, doing a cleanse did not help fix any problems. I didn't see the show, but this is what I heard.

Yes, I have done 2 cleanses. One was the lemonade diet, which I don't suggest. tongue.gif I did it several years ago and really didn't notice a big change.

The second cleanse is more of a cleansing diet, but you still get rid of all the toxins in your body. There's a book called "Clean Up Your Diet" by Max Tomlinson. It's very detailed and it's not an easy diet to follow. It has several different detox diets in it; for instance the weekend energizing detox, the week long detox and the 4 week detox. You can modify any of them to meet your needs. It also tells you the right foods to eat for certain medical conditions. It's an all around great book. He also touches on meditation.

I would not suggest the boxed cleanses. It's basically just vitamins and minerals. You can get certain vitamins and minerals to aid in your cleanse, but I would highly suggest the "clean eating" over taking vitamins alone.

And you do lose weight when you do a cleanse. A good book to follow the cleanse to continue losing weight/keep the weight off is the YOU on a Diet by Dr Oz. thumb.gif

I tried a boxed cleanse once and didn't notice a thing. I didn't go to the bathroom any more than I do regularly either. Unless of course you're not used to getting much fiber in your diet. I eat a lot of fiber as it is. I think some of it is just "garage made" herbal crap. A lot of what's on the shelves at vitamin stores is just that, made in some guys garage. Just because it's herbal, doesn't mean it's any good for you, kwim? If you want to try one though, go with a brand that is well known. Talk to someone at the store and have them reccomend one.

If you want to do a safe detox, try drinking a cup of hot water and lemon juice every morning. And if you can stand it, do it in between meals. Cut out starchy foods and dairy. Refined sugars too. And drink LOTS of water.

For the bathroom situation, try eating ground up flax seed (I buy one called Forta Flax meal). I eat it on cereal just about every morning and have no problem with regularity. Another option would be to try a colonic. tongue.gif I've never done one myself, but my MIL swears by them!

I would rule out if it is celiac disease first though. JMO. wink.gif
