Ashley has to be the gassiest baby ever! I have tried cutting out all dairy...didn't make a difference. I tried cutting out all chocolate, gassy veggies like brocoli, and onions and green peppers. Nothing seems to make a difference, no matter what I eat, she has gas. Sometimes it is so bad that it sounds like a machine gun! It wouldn't bother me so much except that she actually hurts from it sometimes...she will cry when she farts. (Not all the time, but sometimes)
Any other ideas? -------------------- |

The Ped recommended the Simethicone/Anti-Gas drops...but it upsets her tummy. It makes her throw up every time we give it to her.

Gripe Water? I have heard a lot of people mention it but I have no idea what it is or where to buy it. Is it over-the-counter?

Yup - it's a little clear bottle, the stuff inside looks like water. It's about 10 or 12 $ a bottle, but it lasts a while - I've had mine since September, and I still have half!
I find it smells a little bit like pickles (there is a little bit of dill something in it...) and it tastes funny... but it clears cramps, helps with constipation, and relieves upset tummies. I just use the generic store brand - it's a couple bucks cheaper, has the same effect. Gripe water has been used by mothers in other countries for over a century to relieve babies from the discomforts of colic, stomach cramps, hiccups, gas and teething. *** Colic-Ease™ gripe water is made with the following 5 herbal oils: Dill, Caraway, Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud and Cardamon. The other main ingredients are Deionized Water and Fructose (fruit sugar) *** The major ingredients in Baby's Bliss Gripe Water are: ginger, fennel, sodium bicarbonate, fructose and deionized water. About the Ingredients Ginger: a natural, safe and effective ingredient, which as been used by parents for centuries to relieve nauses and other digestive problems. Fennel: another natural, safe and effective treatment for stomach upset, hiccups, gas and other conditions with a centuries long history of human use. Sodium bicarbonate: a common ingredient in food (baking soda), which is commonly used to decrease stomach acidity. Therefore, it is useful for easing the discomforts of colic, which is often associated with stomach discomfort. Baby's Bliss does not contain the following ingredients: alcohol, artificial flavors or colors, binders, dairy products, fillers, petroleum-based products, gluten, soy, starch, sucrose, wheat, yeast, or dill. Baby's Bliss GripeWater is given orally, directly through a dropper or teaspoon, or by adding it to a bottle. It usually works in five to twenty minutes and can even be given to newborns by following the directions on the bottle. GripeWater should not be given more than six times in 24 hours or to babies with kidney disease or diagosed reflux. Hope that helps! -------------------- The richest people don't have the best of everything, they make the best of everything.

Haven't had any problems w/Nicholas - or Christian for that matter....but Andrew got terrible gas from me eating cabbage Before getting out of the hospital w/Nicholas, the nurse sat down and lectured that I can't eat ham and broccoli, etc. He hasn't had a problem with anything *knocking on wood*

Beans beans the musical fruit, the more I eat the more Iain toots!!!
Also he likes gripe water (baby's bliss) and it is so pricey I'm thinking of making my own. I think I just need to boil water and add fennel seeds, ginger, anise, etc. I'm just not sure how much--anyone have a recipe?? I just took some myself too (garlicky tummy). Apparently it gets to the baby through your milk. Steph -------------------- Steph, mom to Iain born 12/24/02 whose heart was fixed 3-20-03

Peyton is a gassy little man...I guess he just takes after his dad j/k!! I haven't noticed any particular food that makes him especially gassy. My MIL told me not to ever eat licorice because that will give your baby really bad gas...but Peyton didn't have any particular excessive gas.
Awww poor little girl...Peyton barely even notices when he farts....he will be sitting there and we'll hear a loud noise, look at each other and then look at Peyton and he's just a playing away -------------------- Dawn

Anders either - since he's older, he just gets this great big old smile on his face, and then he says, in a tiny little voice " 'cuse me" - it's just SOOO Cute!!! -------------------- Beverly, DH Eje, and mom to PJ, 20 Leah, 18 Sara, 16 Anders, 5
