I saw the gastro specialist today and they want me to have an endoscope done Thursday at 12:30 pm to find out how bad my ulcer is. They also are going to do a biopsy to see if the ulcer is a peptic ulcer caused by NSAID's (motrin) or from H. pylori bacteria that I could have gotten. If it's the bacteria then that could be the reason why Megan was so sick and why Kylie is still sick after a week now. sad.gif This could mean Kylie may be treated for ulcers as well sad.gif bawling.gif The doctor is treating Kylie with Zantac right now until my endoscope and biopsy is done. If I do have this bacteria she'll have to have an endoscope too bawling.gif to make sure it's not caused a lot of damage and then we'll both be treated with a triple antibiotic therapy. The docs think that it's the bacteria that I have because most people don't develop ulcers from it, but some do and it's a genetic thing (?) and my mom, dad and sister battle ulcers as well - which makes us prime candidates to develop them from the bacteria. I guess this is bacteria you can get anywhere. dunno.gif I'm really confused on that part.

I am freaked out beyond belief to be put under as I have issues with anesthesia but I don't have a choice. I just pray my baby girl doesn't have to deal with this too. bawling.gif I feel so bad for her because I knew she was sick but just thought it was a stomach bug and now I know the pain was more painful for her. Every time I asked her why she wasn't eating or if she was feeling fine she would get mad and start crying so I didn't push it anymore. I, personally, know how painful this has all been as I've been dealing with it, so I just feel awful for her. She's actually had it worse then me because she's had diarrhea and vomiting with it. sad.gif

Please pray for my baby girl.

Karen, Prayers said.

Mary Beth had the endoscopy in January and all went well. Any questions let me know. MB saw a pediatric gastro for it. A year ago, he did a breath test for the H. Pylori on Mary Beth and it was simple and came out negative. I seem to remember that they said if it was positive then she was definetly positive for it but it could have false negatives, so when they did her scope they biopsied for that too. If they suspect Kylie has it, because you do, you could ask them to start with the breath test. If it comes out positive then they may not need a scope on her. I think the breath test is relatively new technology. Also if you are going to have Kylie have this test done I (soapbox here!!) would recommend that a pediatiric gastroenterologist be the one who does it. They work with kids ALL the time and are really good at it. Ok I am done preaching.

Again prayers for both of you. And if you have any questions let me know. I hope you both get some relief soon. hug.gif

karen, lots of prayers coming your way! if it helps, both caleb and jake had to be put out for these procedures, and they didnt have any trouble with it, they go to sleep so fast, and its painless, none of the IV's are put in till they are asleep so there in no pain. and you are there when they wake up.
its really a very fast and easy procedure but as a mom i totally know how you feel. i cried when they took jake in the room.
its hard when your little ones are sick.
good luck and i hope all goes well.
my mom has the h pylori if there is something i can ask her for you, let me know, she has dealt with it for years.

Karen, there is a blood test that is very accurate for Helicobacter pylori infections (the bacteria that causes most ulcers). I'd ask your doctor about that blood test before the scope. If he hasn't already done it.
