My DS had his taken out this summer. He had a up set belly and would be ok for a little while then hurt real bad. The pain was on the right side. We had been to a family BBQ the day before so when he said he didnt feel good I thought maybe he had eaten to much told him to use the restroom and see if that helped but it didnt. So I called the ped and they asked all kinds of questions and said to take him in to be seen. When we got to the ER he threw up everywhere and then felt fine. They drew blood and his white blood count was high and that did a few other test and it was removed that night. He had no fever.

Is it right or left side and high or low? That might help determine what it could be.

With your appendix, the general MO is - pain will be constant dull with sharp intermittent pains that start around your belly button and will gravitate lower and settle on your left side and occasionally people feel the pain in thier upper legs and low back as well. You may/may not have a fever (depending on how far advanced the attack is), you will have a sudden loss of appitite accompanied by nausea, vomitting and diarrhea, Occasionally however, people experience consitpation.

The procedure is when you get to the doctor, they will do two manual exams...One will be a Classic Murphy's test (Gallbladder test) where they tap around your tummy and determine where the pain is. The second is a recoil test to see if you have rebound pain over your appendix.

Then they will draw blood and check your bp (pain shows in bp sometimes) and then will run a CT scan with contrast and you will be hooked to an IV.

And then if it says you have it, they will consult with the doc and with the surgeon and see what steps need to be taken. The procedure itself is really minor. I have even heard of it being done by laser so there isn't even an incision.

Anyway - hope this helps you - And I hope you get better soon! I'm off to work now!
