Ok. When Lorelei was born her legs were EXTREMELY U shaped. Over that last year they've straightened a bit. Now she just has bowed legs. The only problem is that her left foot is turning in more and more. She walks fine, but every once in awhile she'll get a little too fast and trip over that left foot. (Sounds like that movie huh )
We're going to see the DR on Wednesday for her 1 year checkup, and will ask then about it, but I was just wondering if any of you have had this problem with your kids? I'm a little scared for her. I don't want them to have to break her leg/ankle/foot to fix it, or have kids make fun of her if she has to wear a brace. Any thoughts and comments are welcomed. Thank you!! -------------------- Erika

Since it's straightening out, her leg probably will continue to adjust. Megan's left foot does that too, but since she turned 2, I've noticed that it's almost completley straight now. I asked my ped at 15 months and at 2 about it. After feeling how it moved he said to wait and see. If it wasn't normal by 3 then he'd start taking corrective measurements.

I had concerns about my son as well. I took him to a specialist at 18mpnths ( he started walking at 9 months) The first one said he was pigeon toed and would be clumsy till he was about 8yrs old. This was after waiting forever and he never even looked at him really. Then I got a second opionion and they told me that he was bowed legged but in the normal range and to wait till he was 3 and if his feet were still turning in they would xray and such. He is 3 now and he still has a slight curve but it has greatly improved. They usually won't do too much if it is not drasticly bowed until they are 3. Keep us updated.

I was very severely pigeon toed when I was born...my mom was told I would hardly walk without permanent help (cane or walker) my feet still turn inward a little to this day. I wore special booties with braces to turn my feet outward... I walked really late because of this. My father is extremely bow legged... but it doesn't seem to bother him.
My mother is a firm believer that you have to "rub the legs straight" she says that she rubbed mine several times a day when I was little... and that helped. Did it really? who knows... but I was able to take ballet and other dance when I was young... I just needed to work harder at opening up my stances. I don't know if it's genetic or not - my dad has 10 siblings, and about 3/4 are bowlegged too... my kids are not bowlegged. -------------------- The richest people don't have the best of everything, they make the best of everything.

I had one foot turn out when I was a child and had to wear a shoe brace when I slept. I imagine it finally corrected itself, but if it makes you feel any better, I was always a really good dancer throughout my childhood and teen years! I think it's probably pretty common and changes as they age.
