Annika had to go for her re- check today because she had an ear infection three weeks ago. I went on to ask her about the breastfeeding and I told her what my Dr had told me. Her first words were, "You changing Doctors right?" I told her I did and she said that the biggest problem out there is uneducation. She said she nursed one daughter till she self weaned at a year old and another self weaned at 18 months. She then pulled in another Pedi in her office and her daughter self weaned at 3 years. They both wanted to know who my Dr was so they could write her a letter and send her some educational material.

Thumbs up to you for sticking up to yourself.
I'm surprised that doc said that as I thought Breastfeeding was much better accepted in America than UK, I have noticed that many of the mothers here seem to breastfeed for over a year, here in UK doctors seem to think that breastfeeding should practically stop at 6 months and for solids to take over. But then we're the UK and apparently we have the worst record for breastfeeding in the world. -------------------- |

That totally suprises me. I know when I was in Spain it was nothing for a mother to be breastfeeding her toddler and nothing for her to be nursing the toddler in public. -------------------- Holley~ Loving wife to Shawn, (03/22/03), stepmom to Brandon (5/23/88), mom to Annika Lily (12/28/05).

At the moment the government is pushing for breasfeeding to be more common than bottle feeding with help lines classes and lots of other support for mothers who want to breasfeed, but as it stands there's still no legislation saying that a mother can breastfeed in public places.
They can breastfeed outside but cafe or restaurants and shops can all say no breastfeeding mother if they want to, I know that in scotland theyre trying to get a law in so that cafe and restaurants MUST allow breatfeeding, but atm there's nothing like that in England, which really annoys me, as I am all for breastfeeding and mypartner has already decided she'll be breastfeeding little one when she arrives. One pieve of good news after she had a breastfeeding class the other day was the midwives asked all the shops in our town if they would provide a place for a mother to breastfeed, all the clothes shops said they could go into a chnaging stall if they wished, and one shop even asked if they could provide the mother with a cup of tea too lol, so I think thats cheered Gem up that she can nip into a shop and she can do it somewhere more private if she wishes. -------------------- |
