is it ok for a one yr old to stop napping in the am and only nap in the afternoon?
andrews sleep habits are a mess. he is up at 630am, and then wont nap..it used to be around 930am..he refuses...so now its an afternoon nap around 1230 but its only about a half hour.. and then bed at 7p. but he is so cranky. i know he isnt getting enough sleep.. -------------------- Stacy, wife to Peter, mom to Caleb, Jakob, and Andrew

I think it really just depends on the kid. Andrew took morning naps until he was around 18-19 months old. Allie stopped taking morning naps when she was 10 months old, but she sleeps until at least 8. My niece Eliana is 20 months old and she takes two naps still. Andrew stopped napping altogether when he was about 2.

My girls all gave up their morning nap by age one. They would just take a 2 hour or so nap starting at 1 o'clock. It's always seemed to work well for them, but like Sara said-It really depends on the child.

I agree - depends on the child - Dylan gave up his am nap about two months ago (he is 20 months today) now takes an afternoon nap starting around 1:00 for 2 - 3 hours....

Braedin gave up his morning nap by a year old as well. He only takes one nap a day from noon-2pm usually. He's almost 2 but this has been the norm since he was about a year old.
I personally would like a morning and afternoon nap....for ME! ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by MoonMama on Aug 16 2008, 08:04 PM |

I know that all kids are different..Could he have a "late morning nap" maybe 11ish..Then maybe he will be tired, but not overtired and sleep longer!!!
I think most kids lose their second nap around 18 months, at least according to parents magazine lol... My 17 month old takes one nap most days, but if she happens to wake up earlier tahn usual I may still try a second one so that she's not cranky in the pm.. Good luck! |

Ryan gave up his morning nap a little after he turned 1 year old. He takes a nap around 1 pm for about 2 hrs. Sometimes he will take little bit of a evening nap also.

Yep. Most kids that I have taken care of are out of their morning nap by the time they turn 1, or shortly after. In any daycare I have worked as well, by the time they are 1 they are transitioned into one afternoon nap. Aiden is now getting out of his morning nap as well, and I'm grateful he took 2 naps this long (16 months) because Tanner never did. I think after this week, his morning nap is going to be no more. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Boo&BugsMom on Aug 20 2008, 11:15 AM -------------------- Jennie: mommy to two handsome little men, a crazy husband (TheOaf66), and two cats.

Aubrey only takes one nap a day now in the early afternoon for around 2-3 hours. Sometimes I think the daycare doesn't enforce it that much though and by the time I get home and get to spend time with her she is wicked
