Aubery has had a cold for the last few days and I'm lost as to what I can give her. I have been giving her that Little Colds medicine, it has the picture of the baby on the front, they have that stuff called Little Noses (saline nose drops) and Little Tummies (gas drops). I've been giving her 1/4 mL at night to help her symptoms but it doesn't seem to be working. My sitter told me that her doctor recommended Children's Robitussin when her baby got sick (he's 2 weeks younger than Aubrey) but I cannot find Children's Robitussin ANYWHERE!! I've been giving her vapor baths every night and rubbing that Baby chest rub for colds on her chest and back at night (I can't remember the name brand...Vick's??..I don't know) but nothing is working. This poor baby's nose is so FULL of crap it's ridiculous. I have to clean her nose out at least once an hour it seems like and everytime I do I get loads of crap out...sorry if TMI. She is 4.5 months old and she weighs approx 14 pounds. Any clues?

Ya know I was told when they are that little there is very little you can give them that will actually help - a humidifier in her room and baby vapor rub is about it really...........poor dear I hope she feels better soon!

my ped always says that cold meds really dont work for kids, that there is more in them to make them hyper, then anything else.
i usually go with just tylenol, the vapor stuff for baths, and a humidifier to help them sleep.
during the day when the kids were older i used benadryl to help dry up that runny nose, but thats it.
colds just have to run their course, and we can treat the symptoms.

Pediacare for infants. They sell it at CVS/WalMart/Walgreens. The have one for Cold and Cough and one for just Cough. The Pharmacist should be able to tell you the dose by weight. This is what was recommended by my ped when the VapoBaths didn't help. Could she be cutting teeth? My son always gets this way when he cuts teeth, sometimes worse than others.

I thought about that (cutting teeth) but I've been feeling around on her gums and they're a teensy bit hard but I don't feel a tooth coming through. I mean I've thought she was teething for months now because she gnaws on her fingers and well anything around her mercilessly but...I'm beginning to think she just has a strong sucking sensation. Because she doesn't really chew on anything, she sucks one every thing that gets close to her mouth. So i don't know, I bought some of those Hyland Teething Tablets, I haven't tried them yet though. She isn't running a fever or anything so that's good. Poor thing I'm just wondering if anyone knew of anything I could do. I forgot about the humidifier - DUH, I need to turn that on tonight.

You might try the vapo stuff in the humidier. I had the Vicks thing that just had a strip that went over a fan to fill the room with vapor. It worked pretty well.

We're doing the same thing here with my goddaughter
I don't think there are very many doctors these days recommending cold medicines and cough medicines unless they are absolutely necessary since the newest guidelines came out saying that they are pretty much worthless and dangerous in kids under the age of 2.

I would use what the doctor suggested and try maybe some of those tongue strips that clear up the congestion and put a humidifier in her room. It's tough when they're so little!
