Robbie's nails have a lot of white spots/lines in his nails, I heard it's due to calcium deficency, however he gets his required 4 servings of calcium per day.
Any other ideas on what causes this?

My mother always told me it's where you bump your nail before it's grown past your skin, if you KWIM..you know how some of your nail is under your skin then it grows and will eventually be visible..I get them all the time.

I just googled it and the calcium thing is a myth. Here's what a website said:

The spots you notice are not caused by a calcium deficiency. They're called "leukonychia" and are very common. Most of the time the white spots simply are a sign of some past injury to the matrix (base) of your nails. By the time the white spot shows up (about six weeks after the injury) you've probably forgotten all about banging or knocking your fingers. Sometimes, the injury can stem from a manicure that put excessive pressure on the base of the nails. The spots also can be a sign of an allergic reaction to nail polish or nail hardeners and, sometimes, are a symptom of a mild infection

Thanks. I also googled after posting ( I don't know why I don't think of it sooner ). I read that it could be due to excema (which Robbie has got pretty bad).

I heard they come from nail biting- something to do with breaking away at the nail unevenly. NO idea if there is any truth to this.
