Hello,
I'm hoping someone can give us some advice on this. Our son is now 16 months old and has been suffering from chronic diarrhea for about 2 months now. The stools are almsos liquid and seem to contain what I can only describe as a "gritty substance", a bit like sand. We had a stool sample analysed a month ago and they found the Giardia lamblia parasite. He was prescribed Flagyl antibiotics for a week and during this time the stools returned to normal. As soon as he came off it, however, the diarrhea came back. He's been re-tested again for it and this time it's come up negative! He also has (we think) a quite distended stomach. He is happy enough, eats well and is growing perfectly. In all respects he is thriving (except he's being a bit lazy about walking!) although his bottom is red raw from nappy rash because of this problem. We've tried changing from cow's milk to soya, tried cutting out other dairy produce but nothing has helped so I'm not sure it's dietary. I should also add he's been tested for gluten intolerance too. Again, negative. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? This post has been edited by Ginolard on Apr 21 2008, 11:11 AM |
