Breath question

Ok, I have a friend (whom shall remain nameless ) who's breath stinks. Really bad. I know she brushes and stuff but still. She does smoke cigerettes, but even when Tim smoked, it wasn't that bad, and I have other friend that smoke, and it's not that bad. She drinks a lot of pop too. Could this be it??

It's really really bad guys. For example. We were in church, spread out a bit b/c we had room in the pews. And she was singing a hymn, not facing me, and it was gagging me....

On a side note, how do you tell somebody that their breath stinks that bad?????

It could be from the soda, or the combination of the soda/cigarettes. Or, some people just have naturally bad breath no matter what they eat/drink.

Personally, I am terrible with confrontation so I'd have a hard time telling them. I'd probably go the more passive route of offering gum/breathmints constantly and hope they get the hint.

Really, you're describing me, my sister, my dad and my nephew. It even has a scientific name -- Dragon Breath!
My sister was told by her dentist and then doctor that the reason she has such bad breath is bc some valve that is supposed to close all the way seperating her stomach and esophagus doesn't close correctly. They also told her it was hereditary, so the rest of us figure that's what's wrong with us, too. I try to keep mints/gum with me at all times. If I'm alone I don't worry about it, but if I get around someone I certainly try to keep it under control.
As for the lady you know, I would just offer her a mint/gum whenever I see her. If you know her REALLY well then maybe you could mention it to her in a round-about way.
If not, hopefully she'll take the hint and start taking care of it before she gets around you.
Good luck... I know that can be a sticky situation, but I also know that I'd rather know so I can help it than to be offending everyone around me.

it could be a medical problem. I know K's breath was horrendous when she had those tonsiliths.

Isn't there a website where you can have them anonamously send them an email letting them know the deal? I know there is because we used it a few years ago to tell my boss to stop picking his boogers in the office. It's the cowards way out, and her feelings may be hurt, but at least she wont' know who it is

OMG, I had no idea there was such a thing out there! What a great idea! Well my DH has constant bad breath, but I know it's because he is bad about brushing. He likes to chew on toothpicks and sometimes he uses mouthwash, but it's rare. He is a once a day brusher, if I'm lucky. It really grosses me out sometimes but I also think I'm very sensitive to smells as it is.

I had a friend like this in HS. And I had a *short* date with a guy this way too. Unfortunately, mints or gum doesn't even do the trick for people that have it that bad. It's deep, kwim? So I think if you really know her well, just tell her in a very concerned non-judgemental way. Or use the trick of saying "OMG, I get such bad breath sometimes. Does this happen to you?" or ask her if your own breath stinks. Maybe she'll fess up.
