For those wanting to know how to include images in your signatures:
If you would like an image in your signature, you must have your image accessable on another website and link to the image using either html tags or the IMG button in the signature editor. Images can not be uploaded to signatures for security and bandwidth limitations....they can only be linked. Also, I see quite a few people have already included images in their signatures which is great. However, I am noticing that some of them are quite large. To be nice to modem users and small screens, could you please limit your images sizes to no more than 400 pixels wide and 250 pixels tall (400x250)? If you would like you can email me your image (tlcdad@parentingclub.com) and then I can resize it for you and all you need to do is re-upload it to your website and relink to it. Or you can also use html images tags and include/force width and height settings. For example: <img src=http//www.mywebsite.com/myimage.jpg width=300 height=225> Just remember to use proportional settings for width and height so the image does not look stretched. Also, try to use only one image per signature. Of course this image file can have multiple pictures as long as the entire image itself is still within 400x250 pixels. In regards to the size of the images, I want this to be a community decision... what do you all think? Do you think 400x250 is still too large? This seems to be about the size I see other websites/forums using... seems to be ok with their modem users. If you all agree, I can go ahead and edit all the signatures I see that are large for you. I will use HTML tags as stated above. However, resizing the images and reuploading to your website might give best results. For an example of the size, I am including a resized signature below (size: 300x225). Hope you do not mind I used yours, Melissa, as an example Its very good! The designs of everyones signatures I have been seeing are quite nice. Attached Image |

Also, for those on modems, etc who do not want to see signatures to speed up page loading, you can disable viewing of them in your Control Panel. Just click "My Controls" above and go to board settings. There is a yes/no flag on viewing signatures. However this will also block even text signatures, unfortuantely.

I think that the size that you included (300 x 225) is perfect. The 400 one seems a little large...
Just my 2 cents... -------------------- |

I think those are a good size (the 300 wide seems to be a nice size).......maybe suggest 300 and then say no more than 400.
One problem from "forcing" the resize via an tag is that they are still going to have to wait longer for the image to load, because they will still be downloading the bigger image (same number of K) so it might be better to go ahead and resize the image itself and re-upload to your website. That way, the guys who are on a modem connection will benefit the most from the resizing of the image itself. Just my And, if anyone needs help resizing their pics, I would volunteer to help - just e-mail me your pic to supermom@fament.com and I will send you back the new image to whatever e-mail address you'd like. -------------------- Beverly, DH Eje, and mom to PJ, 20 Leah, 18 Sara, 16 Anders, 5

Thanks all. Yep, although forcing sizes via an image tag is good to save on screen realstate, Supermom is correct... modem users will still need to download the full size image in the background.
Supermom, thanks for offering to help with the image resizing. If anyone needs any help, please feel free to email Supermom or myself. |

I was just wondering what I ned to do to resize the signatures myself? I change mine quite often and this way I wouldn't have to bother you guys with it all the time.

Do you have Photoshop or any other imaging software? If so you can load the image in the program and there should be an image size command. Just change the dimensions. Most imaging software should automaticly keep it proportional. Once you change the size resave it and upload it to your website and then come back here and relink it.

Just ing this one up for our new members and anyone who missed it.
Please remember to make your signature image dimensions are no larger than 400 pixels wide by 250 pixels tall (400x250) for our modem users and people will smaller screens. However; there is no limit to a linked image in the body of a post; this only applies to signatures which get repeated. I'm gonna bump up the avatar help post too. |

Important Information
Hi all. I just noticed something while helping out one of the users with their signatures. It looks like some free website hosting places have a disclaimer that they do not allow linking to images on their server. I am not sure if they are saying this to people trying to illegally link to the images or to the owners of the sites as well. I just wanted to let people know. I do not want to see people get their accounts on those servers closed because they find out your linking to your images from another website (parentingclub). So you might want to check the terms of service at your host and make sure its ok. I do understand why they do this though, it is their bandwidth that gets used up even though the image is being linked here. If your unsure if they allow it or not, you could just email them and get a comfirmation. |
